Scientists say that 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere is the safe limit for humanity.
We’re above that limit and we’re climbing fast.
350 Aotearoa is the New Zealand arm of 350.org, an international campaign dedicated to creating an equitable global climate treaty that lowers carbon dioxide below 350 parts per million.
Tomorrow, Saturday, is a global Day of Action:
Join us on October 24!
This is your invitation to join people in more than 160 countries taking a stand for a safe climate future. It will be the largest day of simultaneous actions the world has ever seen. As the first to see the sunrise on this day, and with over 110 events planned throughout New Zealand, we will be kicking the global day of action off in style. Take a moment and find out the details of your local action and help build the movement!
Use the link above. Find an action near you and take part. One planet is all you get…
The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Who was that dude that tried to order the tide to stop coming in? Maybe he would be interested in this type of initiative.
Canute. Yes, in my opinion we’re too late. Human nature isn’t up to the task. But it doesn’t seem right to go down without a fight eh.
Poor Canute. The guy was trying to show the yes-men in his court that he wasn’t all powerful. He knew he couldn’t turn the tide back, he was proving he couldn’t.
Look forward to seeing National government MP’s taking part in this stuff thus demonstrating the meaning of the word ‘hypocrisy’.
Otago. Planting trees and ‘forcing polluting cars off the road’!!!!??
FFS!
If that is the idea of protest these days (neutral and unnoticed with the trees or adversarial towards the people you should be seeking to get aboard with the car shit), then we are well and truly fucked.
I know! Let’s all scream like angry bastards at single parents going to McD’s ’cause that gets the animal rights and climate messages across at the same time.
350.org? Some intelligent org would go a long, long way ’cause those actions are like you have a collective 350ppm of intelligence. Not enough!
Bring it on John and Co. Get your profit margins up before we all up and die. Might as well.
Why is it ‘350 Aotearoa’ and not ‘350 New Zealand’?
Yes I know ‘Aotearoa’ is the Maori word for New Zealand and Maori is an official language but it just sounds so……….try hard.
Oh great I can hardly wait. Perhaps I will bring the bulls, they love this sort of event. They can add that touch an event like this truly made for.
