The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Bit of an eye opener, seems more and more likely that a lab accident unleashed Covid 19…
Obama banned gain of function research for viruses that were spread between humans, Fauci kept funding it for coronaviruses spreading between bats.
Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance – the interview that it is taking place at the Nipah Virus International Conference in Singapore 9-10 Dec 2019.

If this gentleman is still stuck overseas when The Honourable James Shaw finishes his trip to Glasgow could we not leave James adrift and give his place in MIQ to someone useful?
Nobody would miss Shaw. Pregnant women all over Southland will be grateful if this doctor gets back though.

Interesting wee point of view about the shortcoming of providing links: links aren't a substitute for actually looking for links yourself.
I tend to agree that people mostly link to things they agree with, and one can probably find a link to support any position.
But the flipside isn't so much that links show the person is correct, they show the amount and quality of work they put into their reckons. If someone's linking to a youtube vid about a legislative change, that's substantively different to linking directly to the legislative change and, say, the law commission's view on it. Sure, still look for other discussions about it, but in the first example you'd be doing more work than the original poster.
That's my opinion, anyway.
When it comes to handing out the gongs, I suggest the principle recipients should be the tireless workers who are running the vaccination and testing centres plus the scientists and technicians behind the scenes who are working 24/7 to make it all happen. They are the new heroes, not the celebrities and the sportsmen and women – and the pollies – who have had a good run for a long time now.
+1
Those behind the scenes make it happen.

The Whanganui DHB put 50 and over Maori/Pasifika straight into group 3 and if one person in the household was eligible, all were eligible. Yet Māori have the lowest vaccine uptake in the rohe. I'm dreading the coming weeks and months.
