    The Civilian can report, that

Donald J Trump, has no recall of Ivana, claims Ivanka was adopted and Melania is his first wife. He thinks those who wear MAGA hats are his proud boys, but is not sure what MAGA means and has never heard of Project 2025 – saying he can solve Americas problems in one day, he does not need a whole year.

Catch the voter in a net and try out the routine for another term.

A Popular Front assembles across the channel, can it bridge the Atlantic?

My favourite Tory defeats so far:

Michael Fabricant, the larval form of David Dickinson

Jacob Rees-Mogg, a haunted dildo with the moral depth of a graphene scorpion

Penny Mordaunt off Battlestar Galactica, who now has to return to her day job of Not Being In The Royal Navy

Guardian reports significant shift in UK govt's position on Israel-Gaza conflict.

This includes halt to a UK challenge on ICC's right to prosecute in Palestnian territories, a delaying tactic secretly filed by Sunak's government in June; a review of the stop to UK funding of Unrwa aid funding; plus strong support for immediate ceasefire and for a Palestine state by Starmer.

A not so originalist SCOTUS, ensures the USA wakes up to a King.

The only man coveting this status, declaring his agenda – holding a King James bible, a flag and the copy of the constitution.

Now we know why this decision follows after the earlier one – that payoff after a favour (appointment) cannot be seen as bribery.

And note once again an inconsistency with confirmation testimony in the Senate.

anyone want to have a crack at summarising what just happened in France?

    • SPC 6.1

Despite criticism of it, the strategy of holding the elections before the Olympics, was the correct one.

The large turnout was one validation, and the other was it allowed a collective response in defence of the honour of France that speaks the language of "diplomatic civilisation" (pro European/pro collective security/pro the values of the republic) against a coarse and base singularity of identity nationalism.

In the last parliament Ensemble governed as a minority (245 – majority 289).

The left coalition (182) wants to govern as a minority coalition.

      Policy here.

Unless Ensemble (168) agrees, it will not happen.

Macron can call another election in a years time – he has 3 more years as president.

While Le Pen is unelectable as President ( France is part of NATO and on the UNSC), to keep the National Rally from exploiting unemployment – 7.5% and blaming migrants etc, and for some economic hardship ..something has to be done.

The pressures are obvious, the non EU refugees are from North Africa (family connection rules) and otherwise Francophone colonies sub Sahara.

Class analysis would say that “nationalist” populism – exploiting economic hardship by blaming the outsider, can be done with correct social justice policy.

Ultimately that requires sufficiency of jobs (to reduce association of migrants with welfare cost).

They might consider linking migration rules to the level of unemployment.

Sex tourism, which a hell of a lot kiwi and Aussie men partake in has left children in dire poverty. Now people are pushing back.
