We need a "Silence isn't an option Law" arrest everyone that's in these kids orbit , and wait for them to crack.

How about a good news story..?

I live out on the road..and as such I meet a wide variety of people..

..a few weeks ago I met a patched gang member…who was in week two of meth withdrawal..and who is leaving the gang .. but is still wearing the colors..

I smoked some pot with him..and discussed life post-addiction..and the like..

He told me he has five children..and out of the blue I asked him if he smacked his children..like many he said only when they deserve..

So..I told him my history of raising two children..and never smacking them..and how my parents never smacked me…and we talked about learned patterns..and the like..

And I suggested to him a far more potent punishment…namely taking their devices/internet connections..

I suggested he call a family meeting..and tell his children that if they misbehaved ..they wouldlose their devices for a specified time..

..but that they would no longer be smacked by him ..

      That was several weeks ago…

I saw him again last nite..

He told me he decided to give my way a go for a week..

..he called the meeting..told his kids..they loved the idea…they didn't like losing access to their devices..but they really liked the idea of their father no longer hitting them ..

He told me that after three days he knew it was the way to go…his whole dynamic with his children has changed for the better..

..and he is in week five of no 'p'…

We smoked a couple of joints..to celebrate…and he thanked me most sincerely for showing him this different way..

And I reckon that is a good news story…

        Well done, Phillip.

It's so easy to turn away, to judge and to ostracise.

So often all that is lacking is a willingness to listen followed by a few encouraging words.

You'll have him on a yellow lentil dahl next month. wink

Heh..!..the dahl could be a big ask..

I am quite pleased about the ripple effect..

..'cos those five kids will tell all their cousins/schoolmates..

          ..who will tell their parents..

And of course.. hopefully those kids won't hit their kids..

..(..they will just take their humanoid robots off them for a while..)

I actually think that removal of device as a more potent form of punishment would work in an anti-volence ad campaign..

I'm enjoying your contributions Philip – we seem to have had some similar relationships to addictive substances.

          Chrs…

'had' is a good word to use about all that…

..good to come out the other side..eh..?

..but the madness did have it's moments..
