Using advanced travel technology to avoid intergenerational blame.

"The head of the Chinese lunar exploration program, Ye Peijian, has remarked that:

the universe is an ocean, the moon is the Diaoyu Islands, Mars is Huangyan Island. If we don’t go there now even though we’re capable of doing so, then we will be blamed by our descendants. If others go there, then they will take over, and you won’t be able to go even if you want to. This is reason enough."

Interesting choice of comparisons. Huangyan Island is more familiar to us as Scarborough Shoal in the South China sea. Most notable for being recently turned into an artificial island (/military landing strip) by the PRC in defiance of international arbitration confirming the Philippines claim to the area. The Diaoyu Islands are claimed by Japan (though are more unoccupied than occupied) as the Senkaku Islands. Though they are closer to Taiwan than mainland China or Japan.

This will be a nice change from the grim; march with placards, while chanting slogans, style of protesting:

A trans rights festival billed as a queer picnic party will be staged to compete with Saturday’s Speak Up For Women event in Dunedin on Saturday.

"We’re having this party to push the message that our young people are loved and cared for, and we’ll continue fighting for our rights," Scout Barbour-Evans, of Environmental Justice Otepoti, said.

Though they all look so young themselves to be talking about "our young people"! There is a bit of a gulf between the scarfie and townie trans experiences in Dunedin/ Ōtepoti. But at least they are motivated enough to organize this. Good that they used the ODT as well as social media to publicize this outside their usual student circle.

Also, someone earlier today said it was more leaning towards a family friendly gathering than Pride event, which may be where the young people reference comes in. Otherwise there is no mention of that in the article – though it seemed more young trans people (usually later teens) that were being referenced.

A few myths are shattered about the army of lycra-wearing warriors on bikes trying to conquer Auckland’s Harbour Bridge in an aggressive and hostile act of civil disobedience.

Apologies if someone's already posted it, but I've been waiting for this dick-rocket/austin powers cut (also a test to see if I can link to vids properly):

The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
