The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

I want to say this is one of the best investigations I have ever had the pleasure to read in a while. So big ups to the journalist at ‘the intercept_’. I’m including their report with this link. It includes links to the original documents, which are as scary as they sound in the report. It covers the militarization and the turning of peaceful protesters ‘water protectors’ into ‘terrorist’ and ‘jihadists” – all in a effort to make money.

The Young Turks do a nearly 30 minute piece on the same topic. If you prepping dinner like I was, this was well worth having on the back ground. I read the piece from the intercept first, then watched the TYT video. Cenk, bless him lets all his anger flow in this one, and rightly so.
Is this an extension of Homeland Security? Once the climate of fear was established, then the flood gates were opened.
Not sure what you mean by extension of Homeland Security. I get the fear bit, but it’s a private company, taking tax dollars.
“…and state legislatures around the country pass laws criminalizing protest”….,
and of course, its starting to happen here. The Court action against Greenpeace protesters who jumped in front of the Amazon Warrior to stop oil exploration was due to happen today, but for some reason has been delayed. Delayed, not removed – so it will of course go ahead when the Govt is ready for it to do so .
Anyone else getting slow loading times for TS?
No Weka. All good for me.
ta.
Yes, and not for the first time either
it’s all speedy for me again now. Lynn is doing some maintenance currently, so maybe that’s it.
Yes, much better this time
As for the gentleman gracing the picture for tonight’s Daily Review, it struck me as John Campbell signed off his programme tonight when was the last time that we heard a US President being laughed at as a joke- before this joke, that is?
And then, under his picture, one of MJ Savage- what a contrast.
Gangster state.

See that the latest yougov poll in the U.K. Indicates may could lose her majority.
I’ve always predicted corbyn was going to be a disaster for labour – but the old buggers putting up a bloody good fight. It remains to be seen – but he could prove me VERY wrong on this one.
He already has proven you wrong 🙂 Even if Labour don’t get to form government (and remember they don’t need 51% of the seats, they just need the Tories to be under 51%), Corbyn has still done something remarkable.
Post going up in the morning about the yougov poll.
james . What is your prediction here in NZ for Lab/Gr election result?—Or have you lost confidence in your judgement ability?
No still confident – just in comfortable enough to fess up when I have been proven wrong.
For nz I have always said that nats will win with nzf. It was agreed ages ago and that key stepping aside was the price.
National agreed to share power with Winston Peters?
Loyal Nat voters will be disgusted at the thought, having slagged Winston off for years; don’t you read Kiwiblog? Winston’s considered a leper but according to you, your people have made a deal with him. I’m liking this! Winston for PM!
“National agreed to share power with Winston Peters?”
I never said that. I said that the nats will win with nzf – whatever the make up of that deal I have no idea in the slightest.
I read all the blogs – but unlike some who just run with the herd, Im able to come to my own conclusions.
But as long as angry andy and the greens are on the oppositions benches (well – in fairness Little might not make it on the list) – then Im happy.
They’ll be in coalition and this was arranged ages ago including Key stepping aside but National haven’t agreed to share power with Peters?
James; I see you’re persisting with your trite name calling; “angry andy” – does typing it give you a wee thrill, elicit a wee giggle, a squirm of self-satisfaction, a sly snicker? Maybe Farrar puts a wee gold star on your chart that brings you closer to the wad of John Key’s belly button lint he’s promised you.
” I have no idea in the slightest”
