Apologies for the late notice – Drinking Liberally Wellington is on tonight with guest Rob Salmond. Usual time, usual place. From the Facebook page:
Rob Salmond is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan.
He has published research on a range of topics including electoral reform, female legislaive representation, polling, and trade policy. His current work is focused broadly on the relationship between elite political behavior, whether in the legislature or in cyberspaces, and mass political engagement.
Rob has very kindly offered to speak to us during part of a short trip back to NZ, to discuss political advertising by the left in New Zealand. As it is also budget day, he will be giving us some quick thoughts on that too.
Come and join us at 5:30. Rob will be speaking from 6 and ill have a bit of a chat afterwards. Cheers!

The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Is this the Rob of the exploding pre-election blog videos?
An independent speaker? That’s new.
Hmmm, think I’ll give it a miss this time. “discuss political advertising by the left in New Zealand” seems to be aimed at the political scientists and political-insiders rather than a more general audience.
sorry I have to go with beagle on this one.
the policy wonks are completely off the loop
while they sit at home over their cucumber sandwiches and tell each other they never watch the simpsons or listen to radio ritalin the right is running riot with their non-stop yabber on the airwaves
till they analyse the opposition modus operandi and stop relying on their own bright ideas then we are condemmed to not only a remorseless attack of garbage but a complete massacre of our unique culture as well as the blizzard of american football and baseball scores and all the other crap just keeps on spewing out.
get real
the original Labour Party Standard foundered because the party bluenoses would not allow race results and this time around the party is foundering on a separation of bourgeois culturual values and ossified imaginations that have no larger compass than the latest mortgage rate.
