Kia ora koutou, Having a cheeky log-in to the old account to cross-post an important announcement.
Stephanie Rodgers has been selected as the Green Party candidate for Ōhāriu.
Stephanie is a communications expert and campaigner who has worked in the union movement, public service and Parliament, as a political commentator, MC and YouTube board game reviewer.
“I am so proud to have the support of my branch to provide a real alternative to the voters of Ōhāriu, who deserve to be represented by someone who lives here, who has chosen to raise her family here, who truly loves the mighty northern suburbs of Wellington.
“This election is a pivotal one. We have a choice between maintaining the status quo or building a bright green future for everyone in our community; between divisiveness or solidarity; between quibbling over the definition of “crisis” or taking real action to address the cost of living, housing, climate change and environmental exploitation.
“I know Ōhāriu is an electorate full of women like me, who want stronger representation, an intersectional feminist voice in politics, and real change for our whānau.
“Aotearoa needs a strong Green Party in Parliament, and I will be working hard to be a part of that.”

The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Go Steph! I don't think you will win Ohariu but hope you make it on the list.
Best of luck Stephanie – you're ahead of your time (meant only in a positive way).
Boots on the ground Steph, get it done!

Besides, it is always pleasant seeing past authors attacking the political cliffs as politicians.
Ōhāriu looks like a very steep cliff for the Greens for winning the electoral vote. But is it is a high yielding electorate for the Green party vote.
Kia Kaha Stephanie!!
Oh dear. Not another "real alternative". Cor blimey.

Mod note
Great stuff Steph.
Can anyone tell me why Shaw isn't going for the Wellington Central seat which is their highest-yielding vote seat, when Labour's Robertson going list only is basically a gift to the Greens? It's not like Shaw’s one tiny portfolio is much work now that he's got his legislation passed and his little policy bits are on the bonfire.
Who is the Green candidate for Wellington Central anyway?
If they can't put up someone with star power, Labour will keep the seat.
So are you being disingenuous or can you really not find Shaw's statement on this?
Shaw's statement makes no sense, either in terms of workload or elections.
Can you answer the question about who from the Greens is standing in Wellington Central?
You claim to have read his statement but don't know who the candidate will be. You play pathetic little games.
No one thinks Tamatha Paul is going to get the 17.5% that James Shaw got.
No one outside Aro Valley knows she exists.
I dunno, many people wrote off Tory Whanau as well, but she smashed the campaign and won it. If Tamatha can do similar, she's got a chance.
I can only refer you to James' own statement on the matter, and the Te Aro branch haven't held their candidate selection yet.
