New Goldsmith signs go up

Apparently, Paul Goldsmith is not even handing out his business card in Epsom any more. And Imperator Fish reports on the extreme lengths he is going to in an effort to lose. But his popularity cannot be quelled. #hipstersforgoldsmith is big on Twitter. And new, completely legal, campaign posters are sprouting up. Can’t wait for Goldsmith’s victory party.

It’s completely legal because it was produced and endorsed by the National Party. Jayman’s just put it on a compliant wooden frame to make it a hoarding.

  1. He he.

Does the size of the sign reflect Goldsmith’s potential contribution to our Parliament?

  2. Jenny 2

Speak softly and carry a big stick

  3. Jenny 3

Can’t wait for Goldsmith’s victory party.

    ZETETIC

Me neither, the looks on Goldsmiths’s face as he wins will be priceless.

I would just love to get a ticket.

  4. Jenny 4

Can’t wait for Goldsmith’s victory party.

    ZETETIC

I am sure Z, That there will be a huge media interest in this event.

I wonder how Goldsmith will handle it?

Will Goldsmith have a gathering in Epsom on election night?

Will it be limited invitation only?

    Will the media be excluded?

He couldn’t be such a spoilsport, surely?

    Break out the blue balloons!

    • Hami Shearlie 4.1

He may be missing in action and not turn up for his own party!!!

      • Jenny 4.1.1

I wonder if ACT will have an election night gathering in Epsom?

Could this also be a closed to the media event?

I know that yellow is the party colour, (representing gold), but clusters of yellow balloons can look quite leperous on TV.

        Break out the yellow balloons!

        Yeah right.

        • Jenny 4.1.1.1

It would be an unforgettably historic TV moment, if we had a live split screen broadcast of Banks phoning Goldsmith to concede.

          Priceless!

          • Jenny 4.1.1.1.1

As it unfolds the Epsom election campaign night will be compelling, edge of your seat viewing for the whole country, no matter who you may be rooting for to win, (or not win).

The Epsom campaign has it all – Comedy, Farce, Drama, suspense, mystery, intrigue, you couldn’t have scripted a better story.

Depending on the result, people will be talking over their Lattes and Fraperchinos about this for years.

Hope fully left supporters split their vote and deal to anther dinosaur

  5. jaymam 6

There’s an international cycle race on at the moment and there’s lot of people watching it. See the cyclists in the distance.

I shifted the sign to near Winston’s one:
    http://i43.tinypic.com/23wjzhu.jpg

I like the idea of party vote NZ First and candidate vote Goldsmith, for Epsom.

  6. ghostwhowalksnz 7

Key has said he personally will vote for Goldsmith- well he would say that- but I have s sneaky suspicion that he wont be telling the truth on that one either

  7. ianmac 8

jaymam Great plan and execution. Watch out though. John Key could set the police after you. He is bringing charges over the “defaced” National billboard thing.

  8. Hami Shearlie 9

Couldn’t you photoshop Paul’s photo – he might be even sexier without the specs – maybe give him Sonny Bill’s body too – that should clinch it!! LOL

    • Jenny 9.1

      Couldn’t you photoshop Paul’s photo….

      Hami Shearlie

I think the point of this joke, is that this is an authentic National Party Paul Goldsmith sign, personally authorised by Goldsmith himself.

Any alteration could open up Jaymam to charges of defacing a National Party Billboard.

  9. If the Serious Fraud Office fail to lay the same charges against Don Brash and John Banks as they did against fellow former Director of Huljich Wealth Management (NZ) Ltd – Peter Huljich, and ensure that ACT’s policy of ‘ONE LAW FOR ALL’ equally applies to ‘white collar’ criminals, then I hereby commit to taking matters into my own hands to better inform the voting public.

At the moment I am being effectively censored by mainstream media on this matter.

Don’t you think that at least a few of the voting public in Epsom might like to know more about the FACT that a formal request has been made to the SFO to lay the same criminal charges against Don Brash and John Banks as were laid by the former Securities Commission, against fellow former Director of Huljich Wealth Management (NZ) Ltd – Peter Huljich?

Remember the ‘MAN ON THE MOON’ headlines in the NZ Herald that accompanied the complaint to the SFO by former ACT Leader Rodney Hide, against NZ First before the 2008 election?

That was just at the ‘complaint-laying’ stage.

    As I have done.

    Compare the publicity.

    HEAPS vs none.

However – I do believe my compaint against Don Brash and John Banks has far more substance than that of Rodney Hide’s against NZ First – which resulted in no action being taken by the SFO.

The 7 days that I gave the Serious Fraud Office to take the action against Brash and Banks that the CEO, Sean Hughes of the Finance Markets Authority failed to do, will be up by 5pm tomorrow, Monday 21 November 2011.

Why on earth would the voting public want to vote for yet-to-be convicted ‘white collar’ criminals Don Brash and John Banks to help run NZ – when they couldn’t even competently, or properly run a Huljich Kiwisaver Scheme?

    ‘ONE LAW FOR ALL’?

    Let’s see it.

Hopefully – tomorrow, Monday 21 November 2011, the SFO will confirm that they are going to do the job that the CEO of the Finance Markets Authority has not, and equally charge Don Brash and John Banks as former fellow Directors of Huljich Wealth Management (NZ) Ltd.

If the SFO also refuse to ‘do their job’ will I have to formally request to the appropriate persons at Transparency International that NZ’s ‘perceived’ status as ‘the least corrupt country in the world’ needs to be urgently reviewed?

(I met a lot of those persons at the Transparency International 2010 Conference in Bangkok last year, and have their contact details.)

Or, perhaps the appropriate OECD anti-corruption persons, might also be interested?

I do hope that commonsense and the LAW will prevail, and those who are paid as statutory ‘third party’ public watchdogs DO THEIR JOBS and don’t leave it to unpaid ‘Public Watchdogs’ – such as myself.

    Because – be warned – I will.

    Good luck with that Penny.

I wonder if Paul will be dropped from the party list in 2014 as punishment for winning his seat.

    • Hami Shearlie 12.1

Maybe Banksie could take his spot on the Nats list by switching back to National!

I dress in blue and yellow,
I’m a genuine Act Party fellow,
But if I lose on election day
I might decide on another way

My name is Banksie and I hate to lose
I wear a rosette, it doesn’t matter whose,
As long as I can snuggle up to Key
I’ll be anything he tells me to be!!

We had a cuppa, such lovely tea
He said all sorts of things to me
‘Bout Don, and Winston and Catherine
And now the mess that that’s got me in!

I thought that Epsom would give me votes
To win I’ll wear any colour coats
But Epsomites are a fickle breed
And that Huljich stuff, that’s all I need!

I’m trying to keep my chin up high
My polls look bad and I don’t know why
I only want to be at John’s feet,
I’ll DIE if I don’t get that Epsom seat!!!

      R.I.P. Banksie!

  12. Jenny 13

A bizarre and sinister interpretation of Jaymam’s one man, rather light hearted campaign.

the bizarre but sinister attempt in Epsom to destroy the campaign of a National candidate who is running a non- campaign

But, how can you possibly sabotage a “non-campaign”?

Dinosaur Don Brash is at it again wants to close the ministry of women’s affairs !
How ironic is that Don must be on the ganga again

Crazy old git… He’s an OAP, right?

  14. Graeme 15

Every left voter in Epsom has to vote Goldsmith…its a vote for change.

    • Jenny 15.1

This all makes me ponder why National who seem so keen on getting Brash and co. into parliament, don’t get just get Paul Goldsmith to step down.

Then it occurred to me, the strategists and right wing lobbyists angling to get Don Brash back into parliament have weighed how unpopular ACT is even in Epsom, New Zealand’s most conservative seat.

And they have realised, that if there wasn’t a National candidate at all, then National supporters instead of taking their Party’s advice to vote ACT may either not vote at all, or even, (worst case scenario), go over to the opposition candidate, only giving their list vote to National.

  15. jaymam 16

Contractors working in the area have said that the large Banks billboard on the trailer visible in the second picture was illegally parked on top of a survey mark. They phoned Banks’s minders to have it moved.

  16. Misanthropic Curmudgeon 18

It’s disturbing that people here would commit electoral offences such as this stunt and others promoted on this blog- and that others would condone it – which places these people on a par with election riggers in the third-word.

But they do it for their Party, which they beleive is for the greater good, and so that is OK by them.

    • McFlock 18.1

      How is it an offence?

In fact there is an argument that it is not just legal, but moral, given that the nat candidate is trying to hobble his own campaign in an attempt to manipulate the democratic process.

    • felix 18.2

Except it’s not an electoral offence. As noted in the post if you’d bothered to read it.

  17. jaymam 19

Tonight was the final candidate’s meeting for Epsom.
As you can see, the audience were enthusiastic and loyal Goldsmih supporters:
    http://i39.tinypic.com/qosr2f.jpg
I’m sure I’ve seen that Goldsmith sign somewhere before. It seems a bit bigger now, like A2.

Even Don Brash was there. We have not seen a lot of him campaigning have we?
    http://i44.tinypic.com/rmu234.jpg

Penny Bright had some complaint about Banks and Kiwisaver, and said she’s going to attach these signs to all of Bank’s billboards:
    http://i39.tinypic.com/xkohly.jpg

Afterwards Banks, unusually for him, stayed for an interview, but was outnumbered by loyal Goldsmith fans. Even Brash couldn’t save him:
    http://i41.tinypic.com/6r4qyv.jpg

Goldsmith gave an interview also. Unfortunately Brash kept poking his face in:
    http://i40.tinypic.com/2mdl7vr.jpg

I fear that Brash has quite ruined Goldsmith’s interview, judging by this TV monitor:
    http://i41.tinypic.com/fau4nm.jpg

Here’s a lovely old Goldsmith supporter. She’s been trying to take away Brash pictures for herself for several meetings now. Maybe she has a thing for Don? I’m not sure why she is wearing yellow:
    http://i43.tinypic.com/wwbsqq.jpg

As always, my photos may be used anywhere else.
