The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Any thoughts on when trump will climb to the top of the empire state building..and start swatting at bi-planes..?
Please refer any comments about this to the US post. Keep them all together and let's start looking at us and the rest of the world. It's waiting there outside USA confabulations, and so are we.
Um..!…never mind..

Rodney hide on radio this morning showed what a sad limited individual he is.
When a group of National or Act or Labour or Greens people at Parliament form a bloc to seek to achieve something they are doing it for New Zealand. If a group of Maori do the same it is not for New Zealand.
Cretin.
Here is something to think about here – the humble potato. It is a staple food item with vitamin C etc so not too humble.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/429949/claims-frozen-fries-dumped-in-new-zealand-ministry-investigates
Global demand for frozen fries has plummeted because of Covid-19 lockdowns leaving a mountain of product sitting in European cool stores.
Potatoes New Zealand said trade data showed exports of frozen potato products from the EU to New Zealand jumped by 50 percent in June – putting the $1 billion-a-year potato industry here at threat.
This becomes a possibility when a country stops producing for home plus extra to export, and goes for growth in any industry. If there is over-production or a stockpile the system can go into reverse and swamp you dead.
I remember decades ago that we were exporting lamb to the USA in parallel with Australia. Oz had a drought and wanted to get rid of massive lamb numbers and ignored an agreement with USA to keep within a certain quota. It mucked up their producers sales, which hurt as they recently had an important subsidy dropped. They complained. Oz had flooded the market and undercut their own lamb sales. NZ had not had the Oz problem, and had continued to follow our usual quota, but the USA acted against both of us. We suddenly upped our sales before the hit from a much reduced quota, and then had to adjust our numbers and business here. And we haven't done too well in sheep farming in recent years.
So we have to keep on our toes with our industries, trying to maintain good ties and be able to plan ahead with good timelines. It would be good if our government could start easing out the type of business person who pushes the envelope, and of course overstocking and wailing because there isn't anywhere handy to overwinter cows who stand in mud. Our name could be mud on that very point if there was an emotive follow-up on what we allow as animal welfare here. No matter that the Brits mismanaged theirs with the bovine spongiform* disaster, mainly spread through industrial agricultural methods with little concern for the animals being bulk handled
*BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) is a progressive neurological disorder of cattle that results from infection by an unusual transmissible agent called a prion. The nature of the transmissible agent is not well understood. https://www.cdc.gov/prions/bse/index.html

Not much different to the Brexit vote.
Are we simps like England. No – that's why our forepeople came here – to be able to make better decisions and better lives for ourselves. And throwing the book at people who smoke weed doesn't fit. Does it!
NZ can fly direct to Melbourne, no probs, go anywhere from Monday.

In the images of this item is a pic of St Kildas beach and the grass esplanade. They have sprayed blue circles with measured distances apart as a guide to keeping to the right spacing and all staying within your bubble. Had we done that? It is a good idea and would help to reinforce the health message going forward…
