Napier, Invercargill, Dunedin and Westport would be our contenders.

Invercargill and Dunedin have been closed by floods once a decade or so.

      • Graeme 1.1.1

Large parts of Dunedin are below mean sea level, some around a metre. Invercargill is just above, but close enough that a flood combined with a high tide makes things pretty wet. Both suffer from being built on very weak ground, especially Invercargill, so both are never going to be more than they are now and unlikely to get much future investment.

It's not only airports that are at risk from sea level rise. The State Highway and railway going past Dunedin Airport are only slightly higher and just as at risk in many other places.

"Ardern told her MPs action was coming, but not for several more months. The Cabinet would not complete its review of housing demand settings until late February, and all she would say about new housing supply was that it was likely in the Budget in May."

    Well that shows urgency….not.

Let’s not be to harsh Cindy and labour have only had 9 years in opposition , 4 years in government to work it out, give them a break

Venezuela's election was certified as free and fair by every credible witness, including the Carter Center and the European Union. This report by the always excellent Max Blumenthal is worth watching if you are interested in South American politics…

Max Blumenthal regular contributor to RT and Sputnik, yes really credible

[Another stupid shoot-the-messenger lacking a decent argument and devoid of content. I think your intention is to rile Morrissey but it is irrelevant.

Commenters who continue this practice of attacking/shooting the messenger without constructive contribution to discussion can expect a ban.

I’ve added another week because you tried to bypass your current one-week ban.

        @ Red:

In the past, you have been trying many times to get around bans and sometimes with some success. For some reason you seem to think that bans do not apply to you and you can do what you like here as if it is some kind of catch-me-if-you-can game. Keep it up and you’re heading for a permanent ban.

To be 100% clear: you’ll be free to comment here again on 7 Feb. If you again try to get around it, you’ll be gone permanently. Whether or not you acknowledge having seen these two warnings is up to you because I don’t care either way; I don’t have to provide this service to you because TS doesn’t owe you anything.

Simon Wilson in the Herald saying something about Paula Bennett running for the Auckland mayoralty. We don’t subscribe so I might have got that wrong, but WTF!

If Google withdraws service from Australia you can expect some good information market openings. Hey Aussies: join efforts with EU and open competitors!

I’m currently reading David Kilcullen’s new book and it found this interesting stat on 86.

“The 9/11 attacks were ( and remain) the most ambitious terrorist operation ever launched, taking years to plan and costing the group (AQ) $500.000 USD. They also had by far the largest impact, killing 2,976 people and maiming thousands more (not counting those who died from the after effects of the attacks) and costing the US economy $500B USD in direct financial impact. Adding the cost of the war on terrorism (including the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan) homeland security, and the cost of follow- on conflicts, a mid 2018 study found that spending “totaled $2.8Trillion USD during the fiscal years 2002 through 2017. Most important, the 9/11 attacked off a cycle of conflicts that are still with us and show no sign of ending anytime soon”

Ouch and if you think this is bad, I’ve got another book I’m reading and it’s heavy going as well called:,

    British Generals in Blair’s Wars.

OMG, Blair is an absolute ****ing muppet, c**t, moronic w*****, poofer, ***hole, a bloody Murderer and a bloody micromanager who was hands on and driven by his Focus groups Focus groups who were lo
