The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about peopleâs relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Darby’s barbie? It just seems like a rip-off of Lowie’s Barbie.
Now that was great television đ
I think that Mr Key has much more pressing business on his hands thankyou just the same Rhys. He has to decide whether to go back to Florida or to Hawaii for his next holiday and make a decision on whether or not to take the family. These things take time and effort.
ZOMG! Meats! Those weren’t tofu sausages, y’know.
I always suspected Greenpeace were the secret underbelly of world-destroying transnational capitalism. Because as we all know, you cannot be a socialist, a greenie or any kind of progressive and eat meat.

as a vegan, I wish a political party would take a stand on this. Im a young voter, and have only voted once, in the last election, for NATIONAL. I doubt I will vote right wing again. But….I have problems with Labour (probably more just my opinions on Clark etc), and the Greens are a bit “too far” for me, I dont agree with many of their things to do with people, but can agree with them on most environmental things. If the Greens would say something like “we support vegans” or something, that would be great. But, I believe none of the Greens are vegan? I read a while ago that one Green MP’s child was vegetarian.
I realise that many on the right would actually hold veganism against a left wing MP “look how out of touch with mainstream rural NZ….”, but I would really appreciate it.
What do you mean by “take a stand” on veganism?
If you mean to say it’s a great idea then I’m sure there’s no problem. If you mean actually restricting meat eating then you’ll have 99% of the population against you. That’s political suicide under our current electoral system. Most reasonable people see it as a matter of personal choice, not a matter for the state.
I’m signed on but this campaign is really starting to stress me out. I know the people who are organising it want to be cute and positive but it just isn’t going to work. Nick Smith, John Key, Tim Groser etc are not going to cave if they see blue casts on statues or hear about this sausage sizzle. Why would they care? They’re not nice guys when you get down to it. They are people who reflect powerful interests in NZ who obviously don’t want us to do anything about climate change.
The only thing that is going to motivate them is if they see their interests threatened. If they see that their insulting ETS scheme is pissing the public off. And Sign On is simply not promoting enough awareness and anger to make National think twice. I hate to say it but its a weak and possibly worse than useless campaign…
