From Action Station‘s Triple the Vote campaign

________________________________________________________________

We can turn the tide on this election.

If you triple your vote, we triple our power to protect people and planet. It’s go time.

How it works

  1. Sign up as a vote tripler
  2. Commit to getting three friends out voting for people and planet
  3. We will text you when voting opens to remind you to follow up with your mates and lock in their votes

Why?

This election, we need to choose leadership that will look after people and our planet.

Vote tripling is a proven way to channel our power towards action.

It’s simple; have a conversation with three friends and ask them to vote. Then follow it up once ballot boxes open.

Behavioural science shows that it works because people listen to people they trust.

If thousands of people triple their vote, then we triple our collective power this election!

How to pick your 3

We all have people in our lives who want to see a better world, but think voting is pointless, or they are just too busy to make it a priority.

Yet, these are the people who will decide our future.

Your task is to think of three people who:

  • Care about people and planet
  • Are unlikely to vote
  • Or undecided on who to vote for

Reach out and tell them about why this election matters to you, and ask them to make a plan to vote. You know your friends and family best, so follow your instincts.

A "D" score for ACT for workers is way too generous.

Those buggers don't just want no more rises to the minimum wage, they want to lower it.

Okay so my thoughts on this.

We each get one vote, not three.

I don’t accept anyone asking me who I voted for, nor will I accept anyone telling me who I should vote for. My response to any of these questions is and has been “that’s between myself and the almighty”.

Also please don’t ask people to share a photo of their actual ballot for, it is illegal and not in anyway appropriate

      You get two votes, mate.

      • Terry 2.1.1

The way I interpret it is that it’s one vote, but two parts. Party vote and electorate vote. We only get one party vote

    • Mike the Lefty 2.2

Where does it say who or what party you should vote for?

    • weka 2.3

How is it different from political parties doorknocking?

      • Terry 2.3.1

With door knocking politicians at least they generally have a label indicating what party they are from, I can say thanks but no thanks.

What I don’t like are busybody’s who tell me who to vote for, and demand agreement from me, that annoys me.

ok, fair enough. That's not the intention of the Triple the Vote campaign. It's more about getting people to vote. Yes, there is encouragement to share material on voting progressively as well but the tone isn't busybody or harassment.

The NZ Electoral Commission has given me 4 votes without me even trying! I am voting from Australia but my electorate is Whangarei. Going through the website, I finally downloaded my voting papers (to be posted to an address in Australia as I did in 2020). All the information on the papers is correct but they gave my address as in Austria, not Australia! I tried several times, hitting the Australia box, but kept getting my address as Austria. My wife then downloaded her voting papers (same Whangarei electorate) and hey presto they came back with my name, date of birth and same country location, Austria! Again she tried several times and kept getting the same result. So, that gives me two party votes and two electorate votes! Haven't had an explanation and clarification from the Electoral Commission yet, so wonder just how dysfunctional the postal voting system really is?

probably fixable by email if you aren't able to phone them.

      • Koff 3.1.1

Still waiting for an email back, but assuming this is a problem that is wider than just mine. We can print the papers off and scrub out the incorrect stuff and write in the correct info, but not sure whether this would be regarded as tampering! I once voted in a British General Election as an Irish black and white cat. I hadn't enrolled in time, but an Irish guy in the house I was in had enrolled the black and white cat that sauntered in and out from time to time, but in its Irish translation (Ancat Dubisbhan). When the voting paper arrived, I just used the cat's paper on it's behalf!

        • weka 3.1.1.1

I think they are behind schedule with getting the regular papers out so I'm guessing they're overloaded. Hope you get it sorted.

    • roblogic 3.2

If you're in a main centre in Australia you can vote in person…

Find an overseas voting place | Vote NZ

    • Mike the Lefty 3.3

In my previous experience as a polling booth officer, all overseas votes are classed as special votes so they are thoroughly inspected for validity and cross-referenced, so the mistake would certainly be picked up somewhere along the line. I believe that if the two sets of votes showed the same voting pattern they would probably assume it was a duplication and delete one. But if you voted differently each time that would prove interesting – I suspect they would invalidate both.

I have quite a few friends who don't really want to vote. This might really help. Thing is they might vote for a party I dont want in power. I should still help them though, Right?
