In August Hekia Parata announced her new COOL solution, that distinctly isn’t what it says on the tin.

While research shows that peer-to-peer learning is amongst the most effective, and parents are working on reducing class sizes to increase teacher contact, Hekia has worked out how to counter-act all that.  It’ll no doubt ‘save’ heaps of money (although whether those ill-educated kids will benefit society as much…), but given how hard the adults I know find it to keep themselves committed to online education, I’m not sure kids will work fabulously with it.

So now’s your chance to submit your feedback on her proposal.

Submissions need to be in by November 11, and the PPTA have developed a great guide to help you work out what to submit.

It even has a few videos:

    COOL
    Cheap Offensive Online Learning

Another way to exploit children and dumb down the nation while funnelling public money into private hands.

Hey, I’ve got a good idea!

Since the computer thing can effectively replace the learning that happens in interacting with people, put all kids in rooms with computers and no adults. Just in case the adults are the problem.

Bang! There you, poor parenting causing poverty and other social problems dispensed with = no poverty = no social problems.

Judith the Collins and Hekia the Pariah can call it their own Big Idea. And that’s about as braindead as they think.

NZ education today . More and more it seems the neo liberal Nats and their lamebrain schemes , cost cutting and privatization are determined to make classes more and more resemble this ship of fools than actually educate in any meaningful way …

Maybe they prefer a dumbed down populace…

Having been an alternative education coordinator I cannot believe that Hekia continues to get it so wrong. From basically wanting bulk funding again to students learning on computers at home what next. This lady seems to be on a permanent confrontation mission with the teaching profession and schools in general. What concerns me is she cannot see she is wrong & will pursue her own ends. Look at the Kura in Havelock North what a balls up. Funny how it has now quietly gone away. Hekia and the Ministry of Education screwed up on this as well. The reality is this nonsense has to stop before our education system (world acclaimed as the best) becomes third world. Hekia has to go.

Apparently the Correspondence School is experiencing a massive drop in enrolments since its move away from written resources and work books to an online environment.
