The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
I think I will spend my weekend flipping between “From DAwn To Decadence” by Jacques Barzun and “The Victorians” by A.N. Wilson.
Modern family is the best show on the air at the moment.
Considering the quality of what’s on TV that’s not saying much.
Or should I say one of the best shows ina long long time.
5 o’clock, 31 degrees in the shade, I’ve just abused my brain (or is it ‘brane’?) by finishing “How it all ends from you to the Universe” by Chris Impey.
In it are such gems as multiverses, dark energy, black holes that eventually peter out and the simulation hypothesis where “you have no body; your body and brain are the creation of somebody else’s computer programme.”
Figures that reach 10 to the power of 100 hurt my head. 400 billion stars in our galaxy, 50 billion galaxies in the universe.
I much preferred the view of the universe as being a giant’s pool table and some giant is about to pot the Earth into the middle pocket.
I shall now go and have an IPA.
dry brown barren and too many sheeple
what’s the price per head of sheeple these days?
Over supply means less than yesterday …
My wife said she would be five minutes in the shop. Yeah right! After a while while waiting in the carpark I noticed a man leaning on a post and eating a breadlike loaf. And 10 minutes later he was still eating the same loaf. So I started counting the number of times that he chewed as you do when waiting for the half hour that your wife takes when taking five minutes.
The man chewed each mouth-full between 60 and 70 times! Wow!
So now I take a casual anthropological interest in people’s chewing. The shortest chewer was a woman eating (swallowing) mussels. Open wide. Pour in. Swallow. Gone. Wow!
My wife says don’t be so rude! Keep my eyes to myself. But…..
We will be having a civilised Sunday at home .Listening to the Sunday opera on the concert programme .Madama Butterfly . Wonderfull! But I do wonder how much longer we will enjoy an advert free concert programme under the present lot.
I have come across this mindblowing project – Resonance – these shorts are thought provoking and just beautiful IMHO
“Resonance – A collaborative project with over 30 independent visual and audio designers / studios. The aim was to explore the relationship between geometry and audio in unique ways.”
I found it on this great site
