The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Spent the week getting our house ready for ‘open home’ tomorrow and Sunday. Partner and I have decided to get out of Auckland and go back home to the Waikato. I know this is a non-political thingey, but I can’t help wondering what our home will be auctioned for. I suspect we will have a bit of change left over when we finalise the purchase of our Waikato town property. Thank goodness I won’t be at the auction. Nuff said – apart from the fact that we’re both pretty knackered – we’ve been retired for a few years already.
Come to taumarunui you’ll get a great house ,have heaps in the bank the summers a amazing and no wind.
Good for you Jilly Bee. I’m an Aucklander not born but bred. My dream for years was to retire to Onetangi, Waiheke Island – the place I spent the most wonderful childhood holidays. The best beach in NZ? Unfortunately, its not going to happen because the prices have become prohibitive.
Come north, people. The beaches are fantastic – the water is clear and clean.
The bush is beautiful. The tangata whenua scene is much more interesting than what you get in Auckland. The climate is a bit warmer than Auckland most of the time (actually, when I think about it, all of the time !) and if you’re into arts there’s a lot happening in all the major towns.
I found a great recipe for rye bread and I want to try it – our oven got replaced and now it holds a temperature I think I’ll give it a go – was out of a summit cookbook from the 60’s. Best bit, no kneading.
