Nearly 60% of New Zealanders think John Key is a liar according to the latest Fairfax-Ipsos poll. That shouldn’t be surprising given the number of times he’s been caught out being less than honest

* He lied about creating 170,000 jobs
* He lied about his secret trust
* He lied about his Tranz Rail shares
* He lied about what he knew about Dot Com
* He lied about the advice he was given on the Hobbit deal

And the lies go on and on and on.

In fact the only thing less surprising than the fact most Kiwis think John Key is a liar is that they didn’t think much of David Shearer.

            It is pretty freaky how much that page gets accessed. A few hundred page views on most days adds up after a while.

            I only noticed it a few weeks ago when I was looking at the referrals and that was far and away the highest number of referrals from facebook.

            I also took some mild amusement pointing out the number of Facebook likes to Chris Trotter as being an objective that he could aspire to. But I’m like that. 😈

            But the page is getting a little old. We now have all of those wonderful retractions from the GCSB “debate” to add to the mix. I’ll have to *force* a login on BLip so he can post them himself periodically. They’re pretty valuable as reference lists

              Agree (at update). Is there a way to permanently pin it on the front page? Create an eye-catching banner for it? I have it in my bookmarks… but many don’t know it exists.

              I rank it right up there with Campbell’s welfare myths post.

      Its normally yes/no approval ratings.

      Ie Do you approve of how XXX is doing their job.

      Considering a leader of the opposition gets only 10% of the media coverage, no wonder they rate at all

    If the question” of “believability” AND the question of “trust” were both squarely addressed in the Fairfax-Ipsos poll there is a puzzling disconnect here.

    We need to know the exact wording of any/all question(s) asked. Further, if both aspects were addressed, we need to see how they were juxtaposed.

    Without that information I suspect that responses to any “strong and effective leader” enquiry were not more than relative expressions as between Key and Shearer.

    If that is the case Key really is in trouble. If that is not the case then what of the much vaunted “higher standards” ?

    Perhaps Vernon Small would be good enough to furnish detail rather than give us broad brush. Particularly given that from the moment Shearer resigned the relativites as between Key and Shearer became irrelevant.

    Key isn’t trusted personally anymore, but Kiwis still trust him to run the country.

    We need to make him look incompetent, not just dodgy. He’ll only lose when Kiwis think Labour’s leader will run the country better than Key.

        Add also that being a currency trader has nothing to do with financial management. This is why John Key only knows 1) how to make deals and 2) lie… in order to secure said deals.

      Hammering home Key as a liar and as the leader of a party for the rich is a good start. This is something Labour under Shearer never did and is probably part of the reason Key gets away with so much.

      Key is managing that all by himself. On my short trip back home I was heartened by the number of people i know who voted for him who know think he screws up everything he touches. Less heartened by the number who couldn’t see an alternative as some distrust the Greens and others don’t see Labour offering anything different (well, offering anything at all). Shearer resigning should provide the finishing touch left needs if the membership chooses well.

        Key is incompetent, but the majority of voters don’t see it that way. They still believe that Key is doing a good job, particularly with regard to the economy.

        This doesn’t match the facts at all, but it’s the perception that’s out there and Labour haven’t effectively countered it.

    Go figure?? With the mountains of evidence about of his lies it amazes me that kiwi are so stupid? What is up with that? A guy who’s leading NZ deeper & deeper into the financial internationally with, $159b foreign debt & $114b of “off the balance sheet Liabilities”, mortgage debt of $182b, about $200b private, $11b corporate debt, $10b council debt and falling international trade revenues for the last 12 months because Tim Grosser was too busy trying to get a seat on the WTO NZ trade slumped by $1.6b! These guys are incompetent crony capitalists. Oh yeah, now that everyone that’s in receipt of a benefit is called a “JobSeeker” real unemployment is now 12%!!

            Try rereading Tracey’s comment and see if it fits with your prejudices about people who comment on pornography. As far as I can see she commented on Jones’ using taxpayer money to watch porn, what is wrong with questioning that?

            And then go educate yourself about the wide range of critiques of pornography that have nothing to do with religion (honestly, how did you even get that from Tracey or my comments? Wtf is going on in your head?).

            Then come back and say something useful, and we will see if you really are the misogynistic, marginalising twat you appear to be this morning.

Pornography is what is to whoever approves or disapproves they will justify their position no matter what. As for $20 bucks?? Get a grip. It’s not like the $11b dollars Key & Brownlee gifted to Fletchers? Thats something to get up-set about Weka, instead of trying to prove yourself to tracy?                 Why not just answer the question then? You can still make your points, which as far as I can tell amongst the testeria is that Jones shouldn’t be criticised because it was a small amount and there are more important issues. I think you will find that most people can manage to understand and respond to more than one issue at once. And people with serious critiques of pornography aren’t going to take lessons on that from reactionaries like you.

                btw, I think that you will find that Jones spent more than $20 of taxpayer money. In his apology, such as it was, he talked about a pattern of behaviour.

          Yep, don’t have a problem with it. When they’re overseas on our business then it behooves us to provide them with the necessary funding to relax. It’s would be up to them to choose how to spend that funding.

            My boss doesn’t pay me money for things that help me relax? Don’t we pay them enough (salary plus expenses) to pay for this themselves? Pretty hard to argue for those in the smoko room if he thinks the money he gets (below) isn’t enough.

                No they don’t.

                They don’t tell me I can use the mini bar, they don’t tell me I can rent movies. They pay for my room and they pay for my travel (airfare, taxis etc) and they pay for my food. And I am not on over $160,000 a year when they do that.

                I now work for myself.

                My partner works for a charity and goes on occasional overseas trip. She gets airfare and accommodation and $100nzd a day for food and taxis etc.

                I consider Mr Jones (and all MPs) also works for a charity, and one that pays VERY VERY well. It’s about personal integrity and seeing the wood for the trees.

                Standing up for the working class while thinking he can’t afford to pay for his own adult movies is hypocritical and shows a sense of entitlement. Champion of the smoko room? yeah right.

                  When I travel for work, I get the choice of a daily allowance or repayment on receipts. I know what would happen if I handed in an invoice for porn rentals.

                  It’s probably so long since Jones has been in a smoko room that he thinks they still sit around looking at Playboy. He seems to spend most of his time with the bosses, especially of the slave fishing fleet. He sees himself as part of Maori royalty but can’t even win a seat in Te Tai Tokerau. Maori have, by and large, moved on from his type. He cannot and must not lead Labour, unless they want us to look back with nostalgia on the Shearer years.

This announcement looks like another National Ltd™ iniative being announced by a support party – think Charter Schools – but at this stage it doesn’t appear National Ltd™ actually owns it and is only giving tepid, “lets run it up the flag pole” type support. John Key said somewhere else that he would resign if the pension entitlement age changes. His comment here is interesting in that, while not another lie (yet), it does seem to indicate his intention to scarper after the next election.

    Key claimed on radio, (can’t remember which one, one that lets him talk verbal diarrhea all day) that “99.9 % of red zoners are very very happy with their settlements”, and that the red zoning of people’s property and the “voluntary offers” were “very very fair.” However, looking at Campbell Live tonight, it looks like the other unhappy .1% took those claims to task in the High Court and have proven Key’s claims to be false – or should that be a lie. Perhaps Johnny should have stated the bigger untruth of 100%.

This whole “financial hub” scam seems to have been little more than a nice wee earner for his bankster mates with Gerry Brownlee acting as the bagman.         You’re right of course. It was just an “idea” I first recall around the time of the job forum back in 2009.

        “Key told the Business Herald he had “got the numbers” to get the legislation passed and Inland Revenue and the Treasury had signed off that it would not affect the tax base.

        Key is confident New Zealand will be able to attract financial funds to place their back office administration here saying a chief executive of one of the world’s most powerful banks had told him: “If you are prepared to zero-rate foreign funds that are not invested in NZ, we’re going to move $2.5 billion of funds here in two years because you’re 50 per cent cheaper than Australia.”
