  Like I said in the post, I don’t think there is such a thing as “too soon”, but rather there are people who will take offence and people who will not. The trick is working out your audience. DPF’s problem in this instance is that he is a public figure, so anything he does on Facebook will leak out into the chattering classes who will tut tut him for his bad taste (besides, the gag isn’t even that funny and could have been constructed in a funnier way but I won’t go into that).

I think calling for Farrar’s death and/or suicide is pretty much in the same ballpark as his (completely unfunny, as in: I like morbid humour. It didn’t even raise a smile) “joke”.

I think most of us just feel incredibly sad for the mother of the children, that is our overriding emotion to this event.

This joke says a lot about David Farrar and consequently his choice of politics. Clearly Farrar is a person whose brain does not have compassion and empathy wired into it. Im sure many other Right Wingers are similar. Compassion and empathy are a major point of difference between the Right and Left.
