Radio NZ reports:
The head of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the New Zealand Parliament wants to end self government in the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau.
National MP John Hayes says self government in the islands is ‘nonsense stuff‘ and it should be sorted out.
I bet a lot of Cook Islanders will be absolutely incensed that this toffee-nosed git thinks he knows how to run their country for them. John Hayes really is the bad old face of the National Party.
The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Well, there’s three places Hayes will NOT be going for his summer holiday – for fear of facing treason charges!
To be fair to John Hayes, he no doubt says the same of self governance with regards this country…as do most of the, apparently, toffee-nosed git readers and contributors of this blog.
just saying
Can you clarify what you mean there?
I could have and did. Then thestandard crashed when I hit submit.
So here we go again…as though any clarification was needed .
Us people here in NZ do not self govern. Others (professional politicians) govern us; over us. When self governance is raised, the standard reaction from advocates of representative democracy is that such proposals are ‘nonsense stuff’.
According to the post, such nay-sayers are to be considered in the same light as John Hayes…toffee nosed gits. Further, any betting person would be on to a dead cert were they to wager that a lot of NZers would be ‘incenced’ at such toffee nosed gits suggesting or defending the notion that others (professional politicians) know how to govern us better than we do.
Alternative clarification?
I was being a smart arse.
I want to know why he wants this, curiosity. If things are fine there then they should tell him to go away.
Even small countries such as ours may dream of Empire……well some deluded twerps anyway.
The real shame is the wairarapa electorate when from Georgina to him!!!!….
Is this the same moron who tried to kill a Labour supporter with his 4wd?
