The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

The Russian soldiers who thought it was a good idea to drive through the red forest near Chernobyl. Worse than that, they also dug trenches in the same forest. According to the articles above, Russian soldiers have been evacuated requiring treatment for radiation sickness.
For those that aren't aware, the red forest got its name due to the colour that the forest turned after trees died due to to radiation exposure. It is considered one of the most radioactively contaminated areas in the world.

Is it any surprise that the Russians are performing so poorly in this war?
Probably a bit unfair of me to blame the soldiers. I understand a lot of them didn't even know about the history of Chernobyl.
If anything, it shows the absolute contempt some Russian commanders must have for their own soldiers given that the commanders would certainly have known about Chernobyl and the risks of the area and yet still required soldiers to endanger themselves in this way.
Do you believe everything you read? An image search of tanks in Ukraine show nothing but a ground covered in mud, pools of water, and part melted snow, bogging off-road travel down. And digging trenches? so old school, WW1 vintage. Dust in early spring in that part of the world is almost non-existent.
Its in a forest. There is plenty of stuff that can be stirred up and breathed in, especially by heavy vehicles with tracks etc.
But I think the biggest issue is digging trenches in the area.
The staff at Chernobyl said they won't go to the place.
Contempt maybe, but it looks like the soldiers previously took an oath to comply with orders.
"I, (surname, name, patronymic), solemnly swear allegiance to my Fatherland – the Russian Federation. I swear sacred to observe the Constitution of the Russian Federation, to strictly comply with the requirements of military regulations, orders of commanders and chiefs. I swear to perform my military duty with dignity, courageously defend the freedom, independence and constitutional order of Russia, the people and the Fatherland."

New organizations with new collaborative models to achieve change – this one is feeding Ukraine and refugees. The model however, could be turned to many constructive uses. Maybe reafforestation, maybe housing (that human right NZ is falling down on).
Nope.
