John Key says “8 people who were living in their cars were approached & refused help”, Anne Tolley wouldn’t respond when asked to clarify the PMs statement. One brave journalist asked Key if the people chose to live in their cars & he stammered & repeated his statement. Checkpoint.

Jeez John, maybe they didn’t want to be put in more f*cking debt!

    • Bill 1.1

The report I heard said eight people, identified by the Salvation Army and MSD, were approached by them knocking on the car windows. And all eight said they didn’t want or need help. But there was nothing said about either agency verifying that the eight approached were indeed homeless and living in their cars.

So…someone knocks on ‘your’ car window and asks if you want or need help. You say “No”. And John Key says homeless people refused help.

      • Paul 1.1.1

        Key is clearly a psychopath.

      • Gangnam Style 1.1.2

        Pretty much. Remember this?

“Meanwhile, Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett has released more information about “a new mobile team” which she said last week would “reach out to homeless people in Auckland to make sure they are receiving all support they are eligible for”.
“Last night teams visited Bruce Pulman Park and Auckland City Mission to engage with those living homeless to ensure they had housing assessments, address the interim housing needs where possible and provide other assistance as appropriate,” a spokeswoman said.
City Mission homeless community team leader Wilf Holt said one official from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) came to the mission at dinner time last night, accompanied by a security guard, and met eight homeless people.
“They did four housing assessments. The other four were people who were saying, ‘Am I registered?’ They had already had their assessments done,” he said.
“The same worker that came last night comes to us every Wednesday and has done for the better part of this year to do pretty much that anyway.”

Met eight homeless people….seems legit huh? With security guard in tow, must be scary & dangerous work visiting soup kitchens.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11648248 from a few days ago. C’mon NZ journos, keep digging! (thanks Simon Collins)

Te Puea Marae has reported in the last two nights that they have taken food parcels to people sleeping in cars. There were 30 cars parked up in Bruce Pulman park. The marae volunteers reported that many are in work, but just don’t earn enough to afford rentals, and children leave each day from these cars to go to school. This is what John Key doesn’t get. The Salvos and MSD knocking on their windows “offering help” – To increase their incomes? Provide affordable housing? Plunge them into debt? Any wonder they turn it down.

Another day has passed in John Key’s neo-liberal nightmare.
We have become a cruel, ugly and selfish nation under his wretched leadership.

Temperature predicted for Auckland tonight – 6 degrees
Temperature predicted for Wellington tonight – 8 degrees
Temperature predicted for Christchurch tonight – 2 degrees
Temperature predicted for Dunedin tonight – 7 degrees

Not very warm to be sleeping in a car.
Not very warm to be sleeping in a container.
Not very warm to be sleeping in a garage.
Not very warm to be sleeping on the street.

  3. Muttonbird 3

I’ve met a few Saffas and they’ve been forthright, but gregarious and engaging.

They, bar one, have also been uncontrollably racist.

It’s as if you can take the Jaapie out of South Africa, but you can’t take South Africa out of the Jaapie.

Heather du Plessis-Allan is no exception. This immigrant just loves to bash Maori culture and Maori towns, just for the ratings…

And loves to make herself the story, rather than reporting the news.
      A complete narcissist.

  4. Paul 4

    A cruel nation.

‘The Primary Industries Minister has ruled out banning rodeos, saying they’re an important part of New Zealand society.
Animal rights groups today told MPs it was time to ban rodeos, arguing they were inherently and unacceptably cruel.
But Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy has said that won’t be happening.’

Waikato slaughterman pleads guilty to bobby calves mistreatment
Noel Erickson has appeared this morning in the Huntly District Court to the charges laid by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
The 38-year-old was charged with recklessly ill treating, willfully ill treating and killing bobby calves during a two-day period in August 2015.
Animal welfare group SAFE set up a hidden camera operation to highlight the situation in the industry before releasing the video publicly.

    http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/crime/waikato-farmer-pleads-guilty-to-bobby-calves-mistreatment/

    • Gangnam Style 4.1

Regarding the bobby calves, the amazing thing is that the investigation was totally random, no tip off or anything. Appalling business!

    • Draco T Bastard 4.2

The Primary Industries Minister has ruled out banning rodeos, saying they’re an important part of New Zealand society.

      Since when?

Noel Erickson has appeared this morning in the Huntly District Court to the charges laid by the Ministry for Primary Industries.

Was the farm owner also charged?

  5. Richardrawshark 6

Today I saw opposition laughing at the replies given at question time in that manner we now know all to well.

It’s become a joke, we may as well do away with question time. If you ask a sensible question and can’t get a sensible answer , what’s the point of democracy.

    But,

watching the lesser of two weavils Story, Winston may have pulled another wine box out of thin air and have caught the government bank of rights. Some letter he wrote and tabled during question time that I turned to mum and said not acting was serious, has apparently also been bang on as a prediction. Lets see where this OIA and farm deal shennanighans goes, but I think Winstones caught the Nats AGAIN.

I will personally hoist old Iron britches on my shoulders and carry him to Wellington if he Succeeds.

  6. adam 7

I love Lewis Black. A simple approach to why capitalism is fubar.

    Be warned – bad language

    • Richardrawshark 7.1

Very informational. More should watch this, it’s similar to what’s happened here currently. I was amazed listening to what he was saying about the house price bubble that happened. Meryll Lynch.

      Thanks Adam. +1000

    • ianmac 7.2

Yeah. Bluddy terrifying. And it was the poor people’s fault for wanting a house. Not the dairy farmer’s fault though.
And next on the agenda? Hells Bells.
      Thanks Adam.

  7. weka 8

Work and Income have redesigned their website. Looks even harder to find things on now, not least because everything is defined as “you have just finished work because…” It’s all about work, not being in work but about to be again, or not being in work and you’d better have a bloody good excuse.

    The language is weird,

You have a health condition or disability that affects your ability to work. This means that you have to reduce your hours or stop work for a while. We may still be able to help if you have a job to go back to.

And if you don’t have a job to go back to? It might seem like a small thing, the language, but this is in fact social engineering. Everything is about work, not about the person and their needs.

    http://www.workandincome.govt.nz/eligibility/lost-job/health-condition.html#null

    • Draco T Bastard 8.1

Yep. WINZ needs to be disbanded ASAP as it’s now a blight on our society rather than help that it’s supposed to be.

      • weka 8.1.1

Something needs to be done about it for sure, but I wouldn’t trust National or Labour to do that in a way that doesn’t cause more problems. The social engineering has been going on for a long time now. The left should be pushing back harder.

  8. Draco T Bastard 9

Exclusive: Auckland prison guards hit with corruption allegations

A family member of an inmate who’s been in both facilities has told Labour’s Kelvin Davis about arranging meetings with guards or a guard’s family, and paying them $500 to smuggle in two packets of tobacco.

And what does Crusher Collins do about it? Complain that the informant went public rather than keep it secret.

How does National get away with selling off state housing when there is a housing crisis and Nz children are living in cars and garages ????

Answer: by dehumanizing the tenants and create a meth contamination crisis using voodoo science. ………. and a media willing to misinform.

The herald is running a story where a pre-1970’s former state house is Lead poisoned/contaminated …….. but according to the Herald this old house with it’s undoubted lead paint could have gotten its toxic lead contamination from P .

“A house in Auckland with no walls and high levels of lead possibly from P contamination has sold for over $1 million.” ………. A normal person might think the lead contamination came from the lead paint and old dust ( from when lead was in petrol ).

Another strange part of the story was the house was decontaminated for P ……. but this expensive cleaning/decontamination still left the house with dangerous toxic lead levels ….. Or ineffective scam decontamination leaving poisons on site to put it another way.

“a Forensic and Industrial Science report said twice the recommended level of lead was detected.”

Then Housing corp sold this toxic lead contaminated house onto the open market so people could let their kids and pets ingest poison.

” Real estate agency Unlimited Potential marketed the property as a “blank canvas” and a “huge opportunity”.

The story does not state if real estate agents warned that pregnant women, infants and young children would be exposed to potential lead poisoning in this house….
