Ask building supply coys what their ATB are like, sales agents about the number of spec home that are sitting or developers as to extension of settlement terms. There is little that can be done with the outstanding current debt, but for suppliers to manage to reduce their customers exposure by not extending more debt until current levels are reduced, which slows down future builds.
I only refer to greater Auckland in this from my observations in the building materials trade, but everyone has their view on the health of the industry.

I think that if we have to suffer this sort of thing from mad and bad people we need to expose them to the excitement they desire and give them a public whipping. The idea of getting a wonderful civilisation going where everybody is nice to everyone else has gone. Cooler punishments like locking people up for long expensive times in prison are not working. The idea that walkers and cyclists are equal and both just out to enjoy the fresh air and listen to the birds is a common derangement in Council planning officials.
In a fine example of efficiency and good budgeting, if a cycling group did the maintenance work that the Council should have been doing, in gratitude the Council Group Manager Asset Management is giving them rights to harass track walkers. Why shouldn't 4-wheel drivers be allowed the same rights? This is plain bias and favouritism. The Manager should have his ass-it kicked.
Bicycles are machines. Machines damage people, and when young people ride these machines you have a very unequal relationship and understanding about what enjoying fresh air out and about is. This from Hastings today.

The Hastings District Council, which declined to be interviewed on the subject, did not say whether it would be replacing the temporary warning signs that had been taken away to ensure walkers were kept safe.
(Does this mean that the temporary warning signs had made walkers unsafe?)
However, in a statement it said the reserves were for everyone to enjoy.
"The council is asking people to show mutual respect and courtesy when using the tracks as everyone has a right to access these open spaces, and to do so safely," Hastings District Council group manager asset management Craig Thew said.
"The adopted Reserve Management Plan (RMP) identified the community's desire to improve the walking tracks and to create cycle tracks that could enable more separation of cyclists from walkers.
"The local mountain bike club has taken a proactive step of taking responsibility for constructing the mountain bike tracks via both voluntary labour and fundraising. This means ratepayer funds can be focused towards the investment into the walking track upgrades, wider signage improvements, and the many other actions identified in the RMP."
RNZ has requested a copy of any risk assessments or safety management plans undertaken by the council prior to the construction of the track, but it had not yet responded.
