Clearly you hadn’t actually read the article – I believe you are referring to this specific bulletin.
Unlike you, I’d like to know what the “low level acid” means. But I suspect that the police are just spinning bullshit (ie lying for effect).
For instance that is an exact description of vinegar.
It is like describing the capsicum powder used by the police as a harmless plant based condiment. Rather than pepper spray as it is more commonly known as. Note this about pepper spray.
Medical saline water can also be described as “low level acid”.
Or they could just be prepared to deal with being attacked by the police with pepper spray. I know that if I was going to a peaceful demonstration attended by a police force with a propensity for using pepper spray, I’d also bring something to wash my face and eyes like saline. After all as every protester knows, demonstrations are virtually never a riot until the police arrive armed for it.
