So Labour seems to be on sure ground with this. It has been saying that it would not sign TPPA-11 if that was not in the TPPA. It doesn’t seem to be giving any other reasons for not signing the TPPA-11.

It all started on AM this morning apparently when Garner asked English why the government had ignored the letter that was sent to invite them to the conference. Voting has begun, yet still nothing from Labour on their radical Kiwisaver plan.
There are two things I really dislike about Labour. Compulsory Kiwisaver + TPPA.
TTPA indeed, … but wasn’t there some talk awhile back that NZ First , Greens and Labour were against it?… or more that Labour were against certain aspects like the IDS ?
Labour are generally in favour of FTAs. In fact, they’re the ones that started the negotiations for the TPPA.
With the TPPA Labour doesn’t like a single point. If that point can be negotiated out then they’ll sign and ratify.
They haven’t yet learned that FTAs are a large part of the problem as they force trade where there shouldn’t be any due to a mismatch in laws (employee protection, environmental, tax etcetera) and enforcement of those laws.
Keeping an eye on the Norwegian general election which is taking place at the moment. Some parallels with NZ. They have MMP. The current governing coalition is between a centre right Conservative party and a populist anti immigration (read further right) party plus a couple of other smaller parties. Opposition is the Social Democrats (similar to NZ labour). Green party could be one party that determines the balance of power – policies include drastically reducing Norway’s oil exploration and oil production. Also a more left wing party (sort of like Mana). The Social Democrats were in power for 90 years before 2013!

Saw Jacinda in Napier today with Stuart Nash, Anna Lorck, Meka Whaitiri, Annette King and Trevor Mallard and she was awesome! She spoke clearly, positively and from the heart. She is a winner and there is no doubt in my mind she Will be PM in two weeks time.

A return to normalcy could take a while given that the storm knocked out power to nearly 2 million Florida Power & Light customers in South Florida alone.
A reconnaissance of the area by car Sunday morning revealed an eerily empty city, with stop signs flattened, palm fronds littering the streets, tree debris blowing around like tumbleweed.
The front doors were locked at the Aloft Hotel, which had a full house, including stranded international travelers.
But the hotel still had power: Breakfast was served; the coffee was fresh. The hotel has large windows, for excellent viewing of the storm.
“No fear, no pain,” said Sergio Pallette, 58, of Argentina. He and his wife were supposed to fly out Friday, but their flight was canceled because of the weather.

“When they finish the hurricane,” he said.
