The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Novara Media's Moya Lothian-McLean visits Liverpool after recent rioting to examine whether you can still call it a left-wing city.
Very interesting conversations with a number of people including Laurence Westgaph.
Notes the irony of names such as Declan Geiran, John Paul O'Malley, Liam James Riley appearing in the arrest, descendants of Irish immigrants.
Does the racist underbelly in NZ have the capacity to bring the disenfranchised youth into it's fold, and could such events erupt here?
Again the point is made that once economic hard times hit, ethnic minorities become the target of anger. Not the economic and power elites that neoliberalism supports.
Beneath it all it's a class war.
How Did Far-Right Thugs Get a Foothold in Liverpool? | Moya Lothian-McLean Reports
The representative landlords celebrates the OCR rate cut.
First by lying that residential property rent are related to cost rather than market supply and demand.
Rather than sell its first home buyers.
As he notes, this will result in an increase in property values and thus less home ownership.
While the government refuses to apply a CGT (and has only a negligible bright-line test), policy is greasing the wheels for more speculation – thus higher values and income tests to keep out first home buyers.
Landlord class rule leads to landlord friendly policy.

So, an "internal presentation" to health and hospital staff suggested that something in the order of 4500 doctors. nurses and ancillary staff were going to lose their jobs. It has turned out to be a false meme.
So, what happens now? Will there be an inquiry as to who the individuals were who provided the content of that presentation and caused angst and distress? Will they lose their jobs instead.
As a former public servant I am sick and tired of the way some staff get pushed around and bullied out of their jobs for no good reason, and the persons responsible seem to get clean away with it.
We are entitled to know what they have done about it.

Along the lines of what yr saying (people pushed out of jobs), I caught up with a buddy who is a chef tutor at a training institute.
A couple of observations, the 'reforms' over the last couple of years was a very costly balls-up.
He reckons he will lose his job at the end of the year. (Nowhere enough foreign students).
He also observed that several staff have already gone but when he has to travel 100kms for teaching at another site, it is always in a late model, low kms, often electric, vehicle.
Point is there seems to no flexibility in the fleet arrangements but able to cut staff no problem.
