I'm hoping the media move on from the current charades surrounding Labour and National MPs and actually do some real reporting on issues of actual importance.

The economy, health and education …….probably a forlorn hope on my part.

You mean actually investigate and report on issues with depth and impartiality, as opposed to sensational click bait and lazy sound bites? Surely you jest?

Germany to introduce tax to help pay for the increased costs of gas,as realisation even full storage will not reduce risk (only has 2 months storage capacity at 100%)

Some of the tax raised will be used to subsidise low income and dependent households in Germany at the cost of blackouts and reduced economic output in Asia.

OK now can we stop the bullshit and get back to running the country please.

Running the country?…if only they would (or could)

    • weka 3.2

hope so. The PM have to spend 30 mins explaining this shit at a press conference is bizarre (she did well though).

Yes, and I had the impression that underneath the nice presentation is a very pissed off PM who has better things to do with her time and energy.

Oh that I had the tolerance of Jacinda. 🙁

Births and deaths out today, increase in death rate above baseline (10 yr 1.4%)

The increase in deaths in the June 2022 year (9.7 percent) was higher than the average annual increase over the previous decade (1.4 percent). The latest increase partly reflects an ageing population – there are increasing numbers and proportions of the population in older ages, where most deaths occur. However, there were also higher death rates at older ages in March to June 2022

The higher rate should persist over time if covid becomes fully endemic and persistent.Changing the life expectancy outcomes.

For those fellow political nerds out there – you know who you are 😉 – just caught The detail, by Emile Donovan on Nat Rad – on party presidents – interviewing some of the key ones on both sides from the last 30 years or so.

    Utterly fascinating.

That was indeed interesting. Thank you Belladonna. I remember the Muldoon announcement of the snap election in 1984. Thinking about it Sue Wood looked shell shocked but she handled it very well.

Grim as. Some people aren't that long back in their houses from the floods last year.

A metre of rain forecast! Its what happens to the animals that is so upsetting. Humans may lose their homes but animals lose their lives.

The Human Rights Commission calls for an immediate rent freeze:

Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson said for one in three people who rent, the cost of staying in their home was rising much faster than incomes.

"The Human Rights Commission is absolutely right. An immediate rent freeze followed by permanent and meaningful changes to the way we rent is essential for recognising the human right to a warm, affordable home," Davidson said.

"The shocking fact that this is the reality for nearly one in every two people who rent. These people are struggling to pay the bills as rents continue to rise. It should be enough of a reason for any government to act".

    The PM:

"If they do see an increase, that will be the only increase over their tenancy that can happen in a 12-month period, and I think that's really important."

    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/472987/human-rights-commission-says-freeze-on-rent-increases-should-return

No word on limiting the size of these increases, or indeed rent control, just more accommodation supplements going straight into landlords pockets.

New Zealand's deluded, fascist, far right responds to stuff's fair and independent investigative journalism.
