The way it went Ardern could’ve said “peanut butter” and some idiot would’ve had a headline saying “Ardern to ban peanut butter.” Then all sorts of mental defectives would’ve attacked her, calling her Peanutcinda or something equally childish.
Ardern’s mistake was mentioning anything to do the environment, the economy, the future, infrastructural developments, students, housing, health, climate change, education and in fact anything. Actually for a while b was talking about voting Green. His politics have changed quite a bit over the past few years.
Adding at point of sale creates other issues – we’re talking >10c per item, which will have no impact on behaviour at all while adding extra paperwork to small shops. If part of the plan was to discourage farms from using water in the first place, then hitting them directly is the correct method.
Ironically, if TOP ever actually got to implement their policies it would probably be a lot harsher on farming communities than Labour.
