She did a really good job there. Also good on news tv as well.

Great job on the Silver Ferm Farms Carbon Zero meats as well.

Come on Poto Williams and Coster. Harden up on these criminals.

A decent bloke out of business due to the hugging approach.

Not sure if this was already covered today – but good to see some research into Long Covid (well, not good for the sufferers, but good that we're finding out more about it).

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-fatigue-pain-anxiety-common-among-nzs-covid-long-haulers/OCQXJG365EKVDOYVJIHAP4EV6Y/?c_id=1&objectid=12527020&ref=rss

    Key takeouts:

    • 2/3 of people reporting LC symptoms still had them 3 months later.
    • Nearly half of all respondents reported either moderate, severe or extreme impacts on usual activity like work, socialising and family responsibilities – while more than 20 per cent of Māori and nearly a third of non-Māori reported pain.
    • a significant toll on mental health, with nearly a third reporting moderate to extreme levels of anxiety and depression.
    • Little support, uncertain diagnostics, feeling 'not believed'

FWIW, when I had meningitis (getting on for 30 years ago, now), it took more than a year for me to come 'right' – and this kind of pervasive exhaustion, and associated symptoms – feels very familiar to me.

And another from me (last of the day, I promise)

But a really good initiative in growing our own IT professionals, deliberately targeted at South Auckland schools.

A pathway to an IT career – is absolutely a ticket out of poverty 😉

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/talanoa/maori-and-pasifika-students-set-their-sights-on-a-career-in-it-in-technology-programme/LIAU2RFCIUOC5VAHOIP5GRRTEA/?c_id=1&objectid=12526859&ref=rss

Up to 250 secondary school students will be enrolled in the free initiative that will see them take part in a five-year structured programme that brings together high school and tertiary education as well as tech workplace experience.

By the time they complete it, they will have gained their NCEA qualifications and a New Zealand Diploma aligned to industry needs.

The students will also get first-in-line consideration rights when applying for jobs later down the track at those businesses or industry partners that are involved.

Yes, there's something in it for the businesses – they're struggling to find IT staff. But they could have just continued targeting middle-class schools, but are deliberately choosing to work with South Auckland.

Tāmaki College, Onehunga College, Southern Cross Campus and Māngere College will partner with technology employers ANZ Bank, Foodstuffs North Island, IBM, Kyndryl, Spark NZ, Vodafone NZ and tertiary partner Media Design School.
