The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

End of the car age: how cities are outgrowing the automobile
All around the world we see cities and countries doing the exact opposite of National. They encourage public transport and discourage private motor vehicles. The result is more liveable cities, far less pollution and they cost less to live in as well:
So we need to ask: Just who is National ruling for as they make our lives ever more expensive? Who profits from their policies?
Is that Lost ad for real?
It’s the Timaru Herald – anything is possible.
I believe so. Bit of a classic if it is!
I will be kind to others by asking a couple of questions.
Why would our Prime Minister not inform us about deployment of our troops yet tell people overseas?
Why would our Prime Minister tell us that deployment of our troops is “not newsworthy”
What did his ‘casual’ attitude and body language signify when he was asked why we don’t deserve to know?
If my fellow citizens are going overseas because it’s important, If my fellow citizens are going overseas to help in a military conflict, If my fellow citizens are risking their in going overseas, If my fellow citizens are going overseas to risk their lives for me, If my fellow citizens are going overseas on my tax dollars, how come I don’t deserve to know but foreigners do?
Why do more people not see that John Key is indeed a cretin? Is Key’s main weapon that that those he appeals to most are in that position because they are simply even more cretinous than him?
This is a sleeper issue. The Government refused to tell us or the media what was happening but Key told a foreign newspaper. I suspect this will become a major issue in the next couple of days.
Yep – I totally agree with you, MS. This is distraction politics at its best. The PM taking the heat off the ponytail saga, and gleefully leading the MSM down another track.
“Pffffft”.
Oh dear, yet more people annoyed with the PM

Casual again….
He doesn’t work for us remember.
Can’t find the story in the Herald.
Surprise…surprise….

I saw this post on the ticker on the right.

Well worth watching the extended interview. Good work Maori Television
John Key’s right wing brownshirts take their lead from Putin’s online goons.
Key in Saudi meeting his Citibank mates.
And continuing to behave like a 12 year old wannabee obsessed with money and celebrity.
Look at some of his comments below.
‘With a net worth of some NZ$60 billion, Prince Alwaleed is an investor in Citibank, the Four Seasons Hotel chain, Fox Entertainment and Twitter. Which is where their colourful conversation started.’
“You own Fox News, wow,” Key wrongly asserted.
On the table in front of them was a model of the prince’s latest project: a 1100m tower which will be the world’s tallest.
Key wanted to know the cost.
“Gosh, the Four Seasons is an amazing chain, fantastic hotels…at our Maui house the Four Seasons is in front of us, it’s a great place for dinner.”
“Your trip to Turkey was interesting. Prince Charles, Prince Harry,” the prince changed the subject.
Key: “He’s coming to New Zealand in a couple of weeks.”

If that is a correct assessment of their conversation – GOD HELP US. Inane, mindless, stupid and only fit for a conversation between two fourteen year-old pimply teens.
cor blimey and baby cheeses. we can hardly sink lower than this. what a fawning little ignorant pandering nothing our leader is.
I am so embarassed. Key is our representative.
“the wealth, I mean it’s just incredible isn’t it” -John Key

Tony Blair worked for the recently deceased Saudi monarch…apparantly they pay quite well.
@ Paul: Unbelievable! It reads like a joke that went on a bit long and didn’t quite come off – Key being a send-up of himself.
I actually think it is a real conversation.
Depressing but true.
The conversation is evidence for what my Pakistani friend says about the Saudis – children with money. I’m not surprised FJK gets on so well with them. He likes both children and money.
I think it’s probably more that he’s a child with money as well.
The meeting with Saudi Arabia is very concerning to me because Saudi Arabia was connected to the 911 attack on the World Trade Center – they financed it!

You can see why I’m concerned to have someone like ‘Key’ in relations with Saudi Arabia. What deal(s) has he made with them that we don’t know about.
Key is small fry to them, as PM of a small country in the Pacific he merited a meeting with the soon to be demoted Crown Prince.
As past masters of bullying behaviour, his use and merit is very small to them.
New York Times calls for Cheney the Dick to be prosecuted for torture, if only to prevent it ever happening again.

Good news story from Baltimore.
Yep – I thought about this overnight, MS – this is distraction politics at its best !
PM takes the heat off the ponytail saga and gleefully leads the MSM away into something he doesn’t give a sh-t about !
