    Point brilliantly made!

They call it attempting guilt by association. And the Harawira family are refusing to comment. Smart choice.

    • North 1.1

I never heard any loud wah wah wah pointedly identifying a currently serving National Party MP as the son of a former National Party MP convicted of systematic and ongoing theft.

Theft of a substantial sum over a longish period from a charity or service organisation of which he was the CEO after his troughing in politics ended. Offending to which he pleaded guilty. No question about his criminality, offending compounded by gross breach of trust.

Certainly I won’t engage the churlishness of naming either of them, that would to be to sin equally. Suffice to say that like daddy like spawn – judgmental, superior, big-mouthed pricks. One of them a criminal !

And for the thickos out there who might be incited to say I’m rationalising or going light on Mau Harawira’s crime, get fucked. You know I’m not. You’d just be exposing your thickness and your irresistible need to paint Hone Harawira a beast. Your pathology not mine.

  2. exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, !

  3. karol 3

Now I’m worried. Must go and check out what all my nephews are up to, in case they harm my career potential.

    • Populuxe1 3.1

If they are assaulting 12 year old children in their own homes, I would suggest that you indeed should be concerned.

      • North 3.1.1

Thick Old PopuLaxative. Missed Karol’s point by several country miles. Hahaha.

        • Populuxe1 3.1.1.1

Laughing off abused and traumatised twelve year old boy – how classy. The only people around here missing the point are a few tired old radicals.

          • North 3.1.1.1.1

Yeah yeah rave on Populaxative. You’re still missing the point.

          • framu 3.1.1.1.2

“Laughing off abused and traumatised twelve year old boy”

            which is happening where exactly?

      • @ Populuxe1

        Who are “they”…?

      • Tim 3.1.3

        Christ! Here we go again!
If there was one question I would actually give a shit about your answering Populuxicle – it’d be WHY is it that you have a presence on sites like this, pathetically staking claims in various posts as though you were/are some sort of sage, desperately pushing shit uphill (PLEASE – that’s not alluding to any sort of sexual proclivity).

The only reason I can think of – well best not!
I only ask, because you’re an intelligent sort of fella – but CHRIST! some of the shit you come out with sometimes really stinks of desperado territory.

I find sometimes that fucking chickens is quite therapeutic

  4. fender 4

TV3 led with this story at 6pm, Key probably asked them to.

    It’s time I gave TV1 another go.

    • weka 4.1

      What happened?

      • karol 4.1.1

See the opening sentence in the 3 news report.

        • weka 4.1.1.1

Thanks Karol. I think I won’t even go there. Just googled Harawira +news, and the subject lines there were enough. Fuck the MSM, I hope they’re the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

      • fender 4.1.2

TV3 placed too much importance in this story due to the crime being committed by Hones nephew.

        • Populuxe1 4.1.2.1

Really? And here was me thinking it was because the victim was a 12 year old child attacked in their home. You make me sick.

          • fender 4.1.2.1.1

Although heinous, crimes of this level never lead the 6pm slot, unless the offender is related to a well known figure of course.

            • Populuxe1 4.1.2.1.1.1

It’s not uncommon if the victim of said crime is a child. Don’t be obtuse. If the victim had been another adult, it wouldn’t have been the first story on.

              • One Anonymous Knucklehead

Yeah, you keep on telling yourself that.

              • karol

Pop, the story is headlined as “Harawira’s nephew a “gutless bully” for attack”

The print version of the story begins with the sentence “A nephew of Mana Party leader Hone Harawira has been jailed for what a judge has labelled a drunken, gutless and cowardly attack on a 12-year-old boy.”

The video has the anchor starting the story, and thus framing it, with the same statement plus some emotive embellishments.

The 12 year old boy part of the story is added for impact, but not the primary concern of the way the story is told. I agree it should be the main focus.

The story was framed as being about Harawira’s relationship to the perpetrator.

    • lprent 4.2

      It’s time I gave TV1 another go.

Don’t bother. Just disconnect the aerial. Use DVD’s and the net.. Somewhat better service.

      • mickysavage 4.2.1

        Yep.

Use the Standard. Much better analysis and discussion …

        • Populuxe1 4.2.1.1

Yeah, echo chambers are so much more comfortinng than having to deal with the harsh, cruel realities of the world.

          • North 4.2.1.1.1

One of which harsh, cruel realities is you PopuLaxative. Echo echo echo……thud.

          • Tim 4.2.1.1.2

See above … so how come you’re here Pops – I’d GENUINELY like to know. Is it some sort of crusade?
What the hell drives you – other than ego and the static electricity that comes from that surface spin – plastic against nylon, friction against an opposing force.
Still – I suppose it must keep you fit.

“Key probably asked them to do it”

      Anne sez:

      Don’t make claims you can’t verify….

      • fender 4.3.1

Sorry Sir, perhaps I should have said:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the National Party have some editorial influence over TV3 due to them being very cosy with Mediaworks. So cosy in fact that they loaned them 43 million dollars of taxpayers money.

  5. If this was John Key’s nephew, I can imagine the comments.

    Hypocrites.

    • Anne 5.1

Don’t make claims you can’t verify Brett Dale.

It wouldn’t happen to John Key’s nephew for starters. His crime plus sentence (home detention I expect) would be hushed up. But in the unlikely event it did make the public arena, most of us would agree it had no bearing or relevance to John Key. He is in no way responsible for the activities of any of his relatives in the same way as it is not the responsibility of Hone Harawira.

      • Brett Dale 5.1.1

        Anne:
If John key’s adult nephew beat the crap out of a 12 year old, the media would be all over it.

        • North 5.1.1.1

And ShonKey Python would simply refuse to read the newspaper account and deny it ever happened, a la Botox Banks.

You really are a sick thick puppy Bretty. Mind you I sympathise. Less and less the world’s lying down to the effete giggles of your 50 mill’ superhero.

I diagnose a condition related to that from which shrinks in the North of England make money for jam every time Man U loses. It’s called “Thwarted Aspirational Narcissism” aka “Stroking”.

You must take your meds bro’ !

      • Populuxe1 5.1.2

If John Key’s adult nephew drunkedly chased a child all they way to that child’s home, cornered the child in their bedroom and beat the shit out of them, there is no way in the world the media isn’t going to be all over that. Don’t be so fucking ridiculous, you’re embaressing yourself.

        • Anne 5.1.2.1

There’s something called name suppression P1. Ever heard of it? I seem to recall Sir Doug Graham’s son being given name suppression when his father was a cabinet minister. It did come out eventually but I think it was after his tenure as a cabinet minister was over.

You really should change your pseudonym to Pratt1. More appropriate.

          • Populuxe1 5.1.2.1.1

Anne – you are just grasping at straws. Nephew, not son. Very different scenario. And the media would be all over it trying to overturn supression for a story that juicy. Not to mention that the international media would not be covered by name supression. Don’t be ridiculous, and think about the poor 12 year old kid who is probably traumatised for life.

          • Brett Dale 5.1.2.1.2

            Anne:

The parents of the child that was abuse, are angry with Hone, for saying
he will contact them to make amends, but then he didnt. Again the parents
of the child abused are angry at Hone.

          • Matthew Hooton 5.1.2.1.3

Your recollection is wrong. Doug Graham’s son crashed his car and left the scene. It led the news and then again when he went to court. There was no name suppression.

            • Anne 5.1.2.1.3.1

Then I’m thinking of another cabinet minister . Oh yes, somebody McKay. He was a former children’s commissioner who conducted a campaign against child abuse. Turned out to be a fraudster. Went to prison. He had name suppression for a long time – long enough for his off-spring to be able to cement himself in as a National MP. Fair enough. He was not responsible for his father’s behaviour. Neither did the MSM make any attempt to associate him with it at the time.

So why don’t they apply the same rule to Hone Harawira? Because he comes from the wrong side of the political tracks? Because they enjoy the pack mentality of putting the boot into any opponent of their beloved clotheless emperor, His Glorious Nibs, John Phillip Key?

        • Mary 5.1.2.2

          He’d probably get name suppression.

      • TheContrarian 5.1.3

When Brett makes a claim about what The standards reaction would be ifit were Keys nephew Anne sez we shouldn’t make claims that can’t be verified…and then goes to make claims that can’t be verified. Cognative dissonance is alive and well

        • Anne 5.1.3.1

I don’t recall claiming anything as fact. I proffered several possibilities (and one probability which has turned out to be partly true) but that is not claiming something to be fact.

          • fender 5.1.3.1.1

TheContraption doesn’t know how to identify the difference between speculation and a statement of fact.

          • TheContrarian 5.1.3.1.2

You made exactly the same assertion as Brett after telling him not to do so.
He speculated on one thing while you told him not to before making wild speculation yourself. Your dissonance is clear

            • Anne 5.1.3.1.2.1

Your dishonesty here is clear TC.

Brett Dale speculated about something that was incorrect.

That is, if it was John Key’s nephew, the media would be all over it in the same way as they are all over Hone Harawira. Words to that effect anyway. Well, there’s a precedent which shows that would NOT be the case. I refer to former cabinet minister and children’s commissioner – was his name McClay?

Sure, when suppression was finally lifted the media were on to it in a big way. The difference is: they didn’t come up with headlines and story lines associating his politician son with his father’s dramatic fall from grace. In fact they acted with commendable restraint and decency.

But Hone Harawira is different. He’s a brown politician from a well known – and at times in the past infamous – family. That he may not have been directly involved with that historical infamy is beside the point. Of course the MSM (or at least some of them) are not going to treat him in the same way as McClay’s son. They went out of their way to infer Hone is guilty by association. I call it pernicious and racist – nothing less.

    • Why do you want to lower the tone numbnuts – typical of you to bring relatives into it just so you can get a dig in – you are disgusting to try and do that and using the prime minister – that is a gilmore you doofus

  6. Anthony

Be honest now, if this was Joh keys nephew, do you think it would’ve gotten the same coverage, or more or less?

TVNZ interviewed the family of the kid, and were commenting on Hone, telling the media he would speak to them, but he never did.

So again and be honest now, if this was Key’s nephew do you think the media would’ve report it the same way?

    • r0b 6.1

Honestly? No I don’t. It would make the news – but not to the obsessive level that this has.

      • Populuxe1 6.1.1

So Hone is more important that the PM? Because that’s what you are implying. The influence of the government over the media is greatly overstated – if it bleeds, it leads and the PM would definitely be bleeding a lot more than the sole MP of a marginal minor party.

        • fender 6.1.1.1

The media love to sensationalise anything to do with Hone Harawira and his family due to their polarising potential to upset the rednecks.

          • Brett Dale 6.1.1.1.1

            Fender:

yeah a 30 year old follows a child home to his bedroom and beats the crap
            out of him.

and some people have the nerve to call that news.

            • fender 6.1.1.1.1.1

It’s disturbing news I agree. And it’s far more common than TV3 would have you believe.

        • Chris 6.1.1.2

Luxe you need to wake up your mind… Hone’s name has been dragged into the sorry behaviour of his nephew for 1 reason and 1 reason only… to discredit him, hasn’t worked in my estimation. If anything Hone’s self control at not lashing out at msm is a credit to him.

          • Populuxe1 6.1.1.2.1

Hone brought himself into the story when he offered to sort it out with the child’s parents and didn’t. Not to mention he is a very high profile public figure and the thug is the son of his sister.

            • Chris 6.1.1.2.1.1

What has the son of his sister got to do with Hone? Did Hone take part in the assault? Hone’s relationship with the shytehead is irrelevant. Like I said wake up your mind.

              • Populuxe1

Hone involved himself in arbitration between the two whanau, therefore he is involved in the situation – or rather he mysteriously backed out leaving the parents of the victim in the dark. Are you now up to speed?

                • fender

You need to read comment no.16 by bad12.

                  • Populuxe1

I have now – I accept that is a very important piece of information, but would like some sort of citation rather than take it on hearsay.

                    • felix

You mean in spite of all your obsessive angry ranting on (well, off actually) the topic, you haven’t even seen or heard any of the news reports that the post is about?

                      F.

              • North

Who the fuck do you think you are PopuLaxative you sad old loose crud?

You’re winding yourself up near to a stroke because people find your pathological need to smash Hone Harawira on account of the nephew’s criminality gross and offensive. Grow up for Christ’s Sake and go back and have a read of North @ 1.1 above.

How much do you really care about that kid anyway ? I didn’t see you mouthing hard about yesterday’s 12 year old victim and you won’t be mouthing hard about tomorrow’s 12 year old victim. Hypocrite !

I’m sure the criminal Mr X (Snr) former National Party MP would be just chuffed and his son the non-criminal Mr X (Jnr) current National Party MP would be just chuffed were I to prove your specious points by clutching the pearls and squealing their names, as you do Hone’s.

I’m invulnerable to any challenge to do so saddo so don’t go there. It would propel me way down to your shit level.

      • Psycho Milt 6.1.2

I suspect a story about an adult Key nephew doing a home invasion, beating a 12-year-old and stealing his stuff would have some long, healthy legs on it for the nation’s journos. Still, you might be right about it not getting as much attention as this one – it’s not like the Key family has form for violence against the helpless.

  7. Then again, seven sharp is using Alex Jones as a reference to another story, so how much credibility do they have?

  8. Binders full of women 8

Looks like you need to go right through the original post and change nephew! to nephews! (as in 3!).

  9. muzza 9

    More important than…

-Christchurch Council being relieved of consent issue!

-Peter Dunnes email being snooped on!

Love the MSM in NZ, making it a better country, by the day!

    • Populuxe1 9.1

Which were all leads on the news as well, you moron.

      • muzza 9.1.1

They were not all leads, there was only one lead!

        • Populuxe1 9.1.1.1

They are all leads – they are the main stories to which the most time is devoted to – including the 19 dead firemen in the US you neglected to mention. Then they finish with a fluff piece. If it was a really big story it would carry through to the following current affairs show.

          • muzza 9.1.1.1.1

Are you pretending to know which news I follow, or not as the case may be!

            They’re all leads 😉

            Fluff piece 😉

            Get in there my son!

          • fender 9.1.1.1.2

No TV3 neglected the 19 firemen by relegating them to the number two slot for a story that while disturbing, didn’t deserve the no.1 slot.

    • Chris 9.2

yep muzz, Key is paving the way to send a commissioner in to ChCh I reckon. The good citizens of ChCh are going to have to start making serious noises if they wish to keep democracy in their great city.

  10. Populuxe1 10

This whole page is kind of embaressing. The RWNJs don’t even need to take the piss out of you when you so obligingly make tits of yourselves like this. Sure the fact that the perp is related to a high profile politician is newsworthy – you would be seriously in denial not to understand that – but shame on you all for basically dismissing the fact that the victim was a twelve year old child assaulted in their own home. Get a fucking grip!

    • Um I see no sign of that pl. Just resentment that Hone is being linked to the story.

Hell I have met a few of his whanau and they are very decent people. I also prefer that none of us are judged by our relatives. I have many gems in mine including a great great great great grandfather Dainel who was sent to Australia after robbing someone of a watch. He then married a wonderful Samoan woman Noa and when they came to New Zealand she was possibly New Zealand’s first Samoan immigrant.

We all have them. We all support them. We just hope that we are not the subject of the first news item just because they get into trouble.

      • Populuxe1 10.1.1

It is a close relationship to a major public figure. It was a particularly horrendous attack on a child. If the latter weren’t enough to make it highly newsworthy, the former certainly does. It’s not some secret media conspiracy.

      • Brett Dale 10.1.2

        Micky

Did you see tvnz news, the parents of the child that was beaten up, are upset at Hone, according to them, Hone told the media he would contact them, but he never did.

You still think its a non story??

        • mickysavage 10.1.2.1

Hone has exceeded my expectations. He has really focussed on the job, talked about issues that are important and done his best to make the world a better place, at least for the poor and for Tangata Whenua.

To beat up on him because of something his nephew did is frankly weird.

So he should have gone around and made amends. Fair call. All relatives of people who do wrong should so this.

But I still do not see the story.

Why wasn’t the lead story that Key wants to hand the metadata of ordinary kiwis over to the US?

          • Populuxe1 10.1.2.1.1

It would be exactly the same if it were the close relative of a TV actor or an All Black – the association is still newsorthy. Not saying it’s right, but it’s not a conspiracy.

            • mickysavage 10.1.2.1.1.1

But if it was the close relative of a TV actor or an All Black I would still be totally disinterested.

Do you think that our news should be dominated by stories about how someone’s relative did something wrong? Or shouldn’t it focus on news that matters?

How about if the world does not get the emission of CO2 under control in the next ten years our civilisation will be wrecked. Isn’t this a more newsworthy story?

              • Populuxe1

Yes, but you obviously regard yourself as above the common herd like a typical failed Marxist with no interest in the “low brow” tastes and interests of the so-called working class you claim to represent the interests of.

              • Micky:

heres the difference, this is a politician, who told the media he was going to
contact the family of a 12 year old that was beaten up, and he didnt.

                Your happy with that??

I go back to my original point, if this was key, the media and you guys would be
all over it, but your not because your a hypocrite.

              • Um populuxe1 I can low brow it with the best.

                But I am confused.

You are saying it is newsworthy because it is a relative of a famous person (who is also a leftie).

But you are criticising the left because we would have said it was newsworthy if it was a relative of John Key.

                But we have not.

And we would still consider it to be totally unewsworthy.

We would prefer that climate change was the lead story.

                • Populuxe1

So you consider the assault of a 12 year old in their own home un-newsworthy? You drop in my estimation even further. You are actually more worried about appearing superior and Hone’s precious mana than a traumatised child.

                  • Um nope. I know that in the next week there will be far too many instances where a child is hurt. Most of the cases will be ignored. This one because Hone was related to one of the perps is deemed to be newsworthy. Not because the child was injured but because there was a link to Hone.

If I had my way there would be no instances where a child was hurt by intruders. To get to that state I know that we will need full employment, a proper welfare system, a hum dinger of an education system and proper sharing of our country’s resources. A progressive tax system will be needed for a start and don’t get me started on a number of other areas where this Government is failing.

But you just go ahead and spin some shit suggesting that I and Hone are to blame.

And good attempted diversion. I am saying the left would be too embarrassed to even raise an extended family link as a reason to criticise Key. You are saying that we would sink to your level and do this when clearly we have not.

Can’t you do better than this pl1?

            • karol 10.1.2.1.1.2

“Nephew” is a bit of a long shot. Not the closest of relatives. My siblings would not be happy if I started claiming responsibility for their behaviour and telling their son/s how to behave.

          • Green Viper 10.1.2.1.2

            +1 Mickey

        • Anne 10.1.2.2

I imagine he was given legal advice not to contact them Brett Dale. It would be a risky undertaking. His communication with them would almost certainly be misconstrued by his opponents. Given the low standard of our TV media reporting in particular, Hone Harawira was going to be dammed if he did and dammed if he didn’t. On balance, it’s better he stay out of it which is what he appears to be doing.

          • weka 10.1.2.2.1

Or there could be any number of private reasons why he didn’t visit. Because it’s a private matter between families.

          • Brett Dale 10.1.2.2.2

            Anne:
He would tell the family he would though.

Did you see the interview the parents gave, they both seem
            very very level headed.

          • Matthew Hooton 10.1.2.2.3

Anne, that would be PR advice not legal advice. I can’t see any legal reason why Harawira couldn’t talk to his nephew.

            • felix 10.1.2.2.3.1

              1. It’s not about talking to his nephew you fool.

              2. Like you’d know whether Hone received legal advice or not you liar.

              3. I can’t see any colour-therapy reason why Harawira couldn’t have a donut.

      • weka 10.1.3

“Just resentment that Hone is being linked to the story.”

Although I suspect it’s how Hone is being linked to the story that’s the problem (haven’t watched the news myself).

        • Populuxe1 10.1.3.1

All they have said is that Hone is his uncle, and that the perp’s mother, Hone’s sister, is a prominent campaigner for anti-violence (which she stepped down from when it all became public). The only other connection mentioned was that Hone had promised to talk to th eparents of the assaulted child, but has since been a no show. That would all appear to be straightforward reportage to me.

          • weka 10.1.3.1.1

Just having a look, they’re HEADLINING with Harawira’s Nephew. That’s the message that’s important, that the assailant is a relative of Hone’s.

          • Chris 10.1.3.1.2

Are you being deliberately obtuse luxe or have you always been that way?

Hi Pop. Can you point to one person in this thread who doesn’t care about drunk fuckwits beating up children?

                ‘Cos I can’t see any.

While you’re at it, would you mind terribly explaining why it’s relevant that Hone is the fuckwit’s uncle?

‘Cos I haven’t seen you make that case at all, but you seem awful upset that other people think it’s irrelevant.

And after all, that’s what the post and the thread is actually about you thick-as-pigshit, holier-than-though, walking-comprehension-fail, emotionally-trigger-happy, Dunning-Kruger-illustrating, Only-Gay-In-The-Village-delusion-suffering, sanctimonious, humourless ignorant wretched transparent cretinous pitiful miserable fuck.

                Tired of your bullshit.

                • Populuxe1

Interesting – you and Tim seem to have decided to use my sexual orientation to attack me. Is that really necissary?
Personally I am immensely tired of your bullshit too. It’s quite nasty – if you have no interest in what I have to say, don’t respond – it’s as simeple as that, but instead you home in on me and start attacking. Anyone would think you were obsessed.

                  • felix

“you and Tim seem to have decided to use my sexual orientation to attack me.”

Where did I do that, Pop? More of your lies.

                    • weka

                      “Only-Gay-In-The-Village-“?

                    • felix

That’s not a reference to anyone’s sexuality, weka.

It refers to a particular line of bullshit that Pop engages in constantly, wherein he claims to hold, on pretty much any topic, a special perspective that none of the rest of us could possibly understand.

I’m not at all surprised that Pop immediately latched onto it though. Clearly any mention of the word “Gay” in this forum must have negative connotations and must be an attack on him personally.

                    • weka

ah, ok. But did you know he is gay? That might make the comment a tad over the line.

                    • felix

I couldn’t give a fuck if he’s gay. It’s not relevant to my comment in any way whatsoever.

Geez – I missed that Pops.
No – as I’ve said before way back when, and as Tenesse Williams once said – “I’ve travelled the waterfront”.
My problem with you is you once accused me of being homophobic, racist, and a heap of other things after having merely expressed an opinion, AND because you often introduce utterly irrelevant crap into an argument that you’re losing, AND because you’re what I would regard as you’re own worst enemy when it comes to claiming a higher ground on the basis of your ‘minority’ disposition (being gay).
                    And….
                    And….

I’ve no desire to sound condescending, ummm so I won’t.
You’re quite obviously a very knowledgeable and intelligent fella, but sometimes you come out with complete and utter CRAP.
After I’d only visited this site a couple of times, I was pegged by you as a racist homophobe over some comment I made.
Some of the shit above after observations made by Morrisey B and others really is over the top.

  11. vto 11

Well aint this a doozy. The celebrity of a political family is see-sawing – fancy that.

I see nothing but negative for Hone over this, which is very unfortunate given what he fights for and the principles he expounds.

The fact that his family so often seek the limelight only compounds the unfortunatism. And Hone’s original act of resolution offer on te tele.

Then the whole situation goes and doubles up again on itself due to the nature of the crime – chasing and beating a 12-year old boy in his own home. I mean, that is just sick.

Then tripled on that is, rightly or wrongly, race and the fixation on Maori violent crime and especially child abuse (whether rightly or wrongly). Many will remember Hone on TheVote just couple week ago and wonder how this all goes together.

It is nothing but a bad bad look and a bad bad reality in light of the above.

And would Mo have been called Hone’s nephew if Mo had made the front page news for, say, inventing a rocket, or saving an old lady from a runaway train, or some other fine deed? That is surely another question.

    what a fine fine mess

    whats tomorrows noos?

        • Populuxe1 12.1.1.2

So you produce television news now?

          • lprent 12.1.1.2.1

Why would I want to do that? Lyn likes that kind of stuff, but I’m in actual programming rather than advertising.

I believe I have pointed out that I don’t watch TV anymore. Main reason is because the “news” is mostly not news of any significance, the ads are painful, and there is never anything to watch that is worth my time doing so.

The “news” is simple minded and is far more dedicated to ratings to sell advertising than information. This is why they tend to do politics as a breathless set of one-liners and pap questions with commentators leaning forward with clasped hands saying stuff that a 17yo politics 101 student would get failed for. Just look at the way that they “analyze” their sparse poll results for instance.

Why would I waste my time trying to extract information from garbage? I’m sure that if I was interested in the science of titillation then watching TV news in NZ would be worthwhile. In the meantime I just keep digging around with the backend peer to peer news sources and the few halfway decent broadcast media.

Theres a little something missing from this post’s comments so far, most of us would call the missing bit ‘the truth’ as seen by a couple of commenters,

Here is what actually occurred, yes Hone said He would attempt to contact the family of the 12 year old that Hone’s dickhead of a nephew assaulted,

As Matriarch of the Harawira clan Titewhai has stepped in and put Hone in his place pointing out that that it is Her position to offer utu for Her grandson’s crime on a family to family basis,

It appears that the offended family of the victim have rebuffed Titewhai’s attempt at establishing some form of restorative justice with the family,

Why then are they now moaning about Hone not contacting them…

    • Populuxe1 16.1

    • North 16.2

There’s another point. I would be prepared to bet good money that Mau Harawira’s bail terms included a provision prohibiting him from “directly or indirectly” making contact with the complainant or any relative of the complainant.

I have on many occasions felt obliged to caution family members against making pre-disposition contact with a complainant or his/her family. Lest some callow cop or an understandably distressed victim or victim’s family member take it all wrong and allege a breach of the direct or indirect contact prohibition. In which case the offender is on a hiding to nothing. Off to the slammer Baby.

I’ve seen family members of offenders, and offenders, just itching to make respectful and remorseful communication but it’s too dangerous. The pig ignorant mouthy know-alls on here like the awesomely so PopuLaxative don’t know and if they did wouldn’t give a damn about that aspect.

Their essential motivation, trumping their vaunted concern for the kid, is “Get Hone !”. Pigs !
