Minister for bad behaviour

Syndey Morning Herald:

“one of the invited guests got really carried away, especially after Italy troubled the Wallabies early on. ”He booed and abused the Wallabies all game,” Jeeves said. ”He was yelling out, ‘f—ing cheats’ and other offensive remarks, and then when the Wallabies started to get on top, he suddenly left.” Naturally the ARU representatives and their partners in the box were gobsmacked. One asked an Auckland government official: ”Who is this bloke? His behaviour is right over the top.” The local suit replied: ”Sorry. I can’t do much about it. He’s a government minister.” The contingent now refer to him as the New Zealand Minister for Bad Manners.”

Hmm. The game was at North Harbour. Who is a local MP, a minister, and has a record of bad behaviour in corporate boxes?

Its nonsense distraction, a non-story, like the jewish spies found in the rubble of ChCh.
As we all know people with dual nationality are evil, and up to no good.

  2. lprent 2

Yep ipredict has opened a book on it..

  3. sally 3

    My money’s on Craig Foss.

  4. Sounds like Trevor Mallard, but of course it’s not him. Im guessing he/she can’t have name suppression since it wasn’t a crime.

    • felix 4.1

I’ll put the kettle on mate. Sounds like you could use another cuppa.

      • Tigger 4.1.1

Oh nice, diversion and minimisation there BD. What else that the National Party Blog Guide tell you to do in these situations? Blame beneficiaries? Make a homophobic slur? Say that Labour had 9 years to fix cheating by the Aussies?

    • prism 4.2

@ Brett Dale – I hope you sent your condolences about the poor people burnt to death in Kenya. I note that you seem concerned about suffering, and good on you. So I hope you conveyed on behalf of us here in NZ to Kenya your sympathy.

  5. hellonearthis 5

My guess is it was Anne Tolley.

  6. Anne 6

There were three ministers present: Wayne Mapp, Maurice Williamson and Jonathan Coleman. All three have denied seeing or hearing anything and claim the story has been made up.

    • rosy 6.1

If it was made up, and that’s a big if… it would be a great comeback for the appalling protocol over the silly shirts at the Pacific forum.

      • prism 6.1.1

@rosy You are keeping up with things. What shirt was the bad choice?

        • rosy 6.1.1.1

          http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10750275

NZ gave all blacks tops with a silver fern to the forum members + an AB jersey

However some were not so comfortable with the choice – notably Samoan PM Tuilaepa,
Tonga’s PM Lord Tu’ivakano and Australia’s PM Julia Gillard – the three countries with teams in the Rugby World Cup.

Mr Key joked he would make it compulsory for the first game tomorrow and had also given them All Blacks jerseys to wear.

“I gave Julia Gillard two so if she loses one, she’ll have a spare. She looks good in black.”

          he’s just sooo funny…

          • prism 6.1.1.1.1

@Rosy This is not a good move. The black outfit is strictly ours. England wearing it is really low stuff, so I wonder what jester-fool chose it as suitable for the Forum. It’s so much ours, its diluting the brand, and a poor political move from the Forum’s standpoint. Joky Hen doesn’t need a jester, he has us to laugh at. Hah hah suckers.

      • Mac 6.1.2

Rosy obviously you prefer to believe in fantasy instead of fact like a lot of comments being flaunted on this site. Jeeves was such a reliable source that he fucked up his information
quote “and then when the Wallabies started to get on top, he suddenly left.” The wallabies started to get on top from the second half kick off and the fact is all three of the government ministers stayed to the end of the match. Also fact is Australians don,t like taking lip so I’m sure the Australian officials would have certainly made their feelings clear had there been such an incident Most politicians are normally full of shit but in this case I would prefer to believe in the facts instead of trashy journalism and as for appalling protocol three words sum that comment up under arm bowling.

    • felix 6.2

Wow, drunks not noticing or remembering that other people find them obnoxious.

      There’s one for the books!

      • Jim Nald 6.2.1

Very much looking forward to the Minister concerned not taking self-responsibility (very much like the Prime Minister) and will blame the bottle for being around him so much during nine years of Labour.

        • felix 6.2.1.1

“It’s not our fault that we inherited 9 years worth of piss from the previous govt but we’re working our way through it as fast as we can”

        • uke 6.2.1.2

It happened within Auckland city limits – so it’s also Len Brown’s fault.

      • McFlock 6.2.2

I guess the work equivalent of “lol” is “qcito” (quiet chuckle in the office)

  7. Kaplan 7

I reckon Mapp with a few whiskeys under his belt would have a fairly loose mouth on him.

    • Jim Nald 7.1

A few drops, he loosens up and turns into something that looks like it walked off the Sesame Street set, eg Big Bird.

  8. Dan 8

I demand a full Government investigation to determine if the Australians were in fact cheating, fucking or a combination of the above.

  9. SHG 9

Wow, a story alleging bad behaviour by a New Zealander from an unidentified source recounted by a rugby writer during the RWC in an Australian newspaper published by Fairfax.

    It must be true!!

  10. tc 10

And in other ‘news’, the 10bill budget hole grows whilst it’s architect appoints his bro to a well paid unadvertised role doing unspecified stuff….details at 6……Yeah Right.

  11. prism 11

Why shouldn’t anyone whether a minister or not enjoy a game in a lively fashion, saying f.ing cheat is reasonable language for the occasion. Since when have Ozzies been so dainty and well-behaved and sensitive new age guys?

  12. Joe Bloggs 12

An unnamed gossip columnist repeating second-hand slurs about a theoretical unnamed minister in a gossip column…

… meh – such a slow news day that you need to focus on this sort of shit?

    • Craig Glen Eden 12.1

Yeah all fine but John Key said he was going to raise the standard of Ministers conduct in his Government. So when does this improvement start?
I guess you would rather have some story about John Key signing some idiots pregnant belly.

Oh and what has happened to your other line? “dont blame the media”

      • Jared 12.1.1

Raisng the standard on something that probably didnt even happen?
        Really??

      • MarkM 12.1.2

Read Stuff and the comments of Robert Reid , Union official.
        Then you can apologise CGE.

As far as Key raising the standard of Ministers , I am reasonably certain Craig that no National Minister has

Purchased Porn videos with taxpayers money
Taken young drunken males home and left them naked running down the street
Purchased golf clubs and bikes with taxpayers money
Used poorly educated foreigners seeking immigration permits , to do free work on their house.
Stone taxpayers money to fund election campaigns etc etc etc

And if they did , I am reasonably sure , that unlike the labour leadership , Key would sack them.

So next time you , or Goff for that matter , want to bring up ministerial conduct , perhaps you should think before engaging brain

        • The Voice of Reason 12.1.2.1

If you’re so well informed, MarkM, perhaps you could tell us what Richard Worth did. Of course, it may not be as bad as Pansy Wong’s rorting, but it would be nice to know.

          • MarkM 12.1.2.1.1

In not well informed I just read newspapers.
Im sure if you could you would be able to add many examples of Labour ministers ” behaviour”.

You obviously missed the point that what ever Worth did, he got sacked.
Isnt that the whole point .
National dosent accept bad behaviour , Labour does

            • Colonial Viper 12.1.2.1.1.1

National dosent accept bad behaviour , Labour does

meh what a load of tripe. Double Dipton Rorter Extrordinaire.

              • MarkM

CV not sure what Meh means other than an infantile grunt.
I think the Auditor General approved Englishs housing allowances and Phillip Feild was sent to jail.
Most people , including myself, can see a difference there.
                You obviously need some help

    • Pascal's bookie 12.2

John Key calls him a gossip columnist, but Greg Growden isn’t just some Joe Bloggs, he’s a sports journo writing under a byline. The link is right there in the post.

As for focussing on it, if the P bloody M thinks it’s worth talking about, then it’s a story.

    • prism 12.3

@Joe Bloggs Obviously the Ozzies feel that their news is boring compared to our scintillating and
exciting events and daily doings and are desperate for some morsels from our banquet table.

  13. rod 13

Way to go Joe, shoot the messenger.

  14. Peter nickle 14

Kerre Woodham says all 3 of these guys were there to the end and were well behaved. Seems like a beat up to me.
Now remind me how long it took Goff to sack Hughes when he tried to shag the 19 year old boy?

  15. Radio Live Tonight are saying that it has been identified that the bad mannered minister is Maurice Williamson.
I tuned in too late to say how they know but the host (Karen Hay and that other guy) are saying that it is confirmed.
This is the denial he made to Fairfax Media

Three ministers were at the game – Maurice Williamson, Jonathan Coleman and Wayne Mapp. And all three say reports in Australian media that one of them booed, jeered and swore during the game were made up.
“I saw no sign of anything,” Williamson said.
“I enjoyed the game, it was an excellent match, there was no controversy and I’ve talked to everybody that I sat with now, and no one knows anybody that did anything. So where I was – there was nothing.
I have no idea what has generated [the story] but all I know where I was [with the] the Australian High Commissioner, several other ministers, I saw nothing, heard nothing, of even the slightest [controversy].”

    • MarkM 15.1

Union official Robert Reid is quoted on Stuff , as saying he stood behind Maurice Williamson during the game , and their was no bad behaviour from Williamson.
He also pointed out that he didnt like Williamson, presumably to give more credence to his comments

      • Pascal's bookie 15.1.1

        This guy?:

        http://bit.ly/qmOpRN

Robert Reid called Karyn Hay & Andrew Fagan tonight (Tuesday, 13th September 2011). He was in the corporate box with Maurice Williamson at the Italy vs Australia match and confirmed it was Maurice Williamson that was verbally attacking the Wallabies. Robert also told us that Maurice Williamson was supplying his underage son with alcohol at the game.

And the stuff article doesn’t say what you claim it says, he says there that Williamson was ‘boisterous’, (which is a description of bahaviour) but not ‘offensive’, (which is a description of his reaction to the bahaviour).

  16. gnomic 16

Isn’t this person akin to what they call a ‘frat boy’ in the USA? And you have to ask whether he can handle the alcoholic jandal?

But surely his real crimes against the people lie in his degrading of public broadcasting? I think Judge Dredd would probably apply termination with extreme prejudice. The gene pool would benefit.
