Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder was voted NBA Most Valuable Player by 119 votes to 6 for LeBron James who had won the award in the previous three years. If you want a lift, his acceptance speech is well worth a watch – what a man! In the speech Durant shows himself also as a most valuable person. With his hugely generous spirit, it also shows how much a team means to the man carrying the main load.
There’s the full speech here, and a short out-take if you don’t have the time. He gives New Zealand’s Steven Adams a very good rap among many others. I hope they do win the West and go on to meet LeBron and the Spurs in the final. If they do, it will be in no small measure due to the inspiration Kevin Durant provided in this speech.

Great speech befitting the awesome player and classy person that KD is from a very well run franchise since moving from Seattle in 08. The tributes to his mother are very moving.
Thunder haven’t pursued the proven megabucks players like Miami did with James and Wade so a repeat of the 2012 Finals with a much tougher and wiser Thunder would be a good matchup.
Heat nearly swept them in the 2012 finals so the elements are there should they go at it again in 2014.
