The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
NZ Herald Headline for Saturday “Scandal hit ex MP off to Nth America”
What a pathetic attempt at journalism by a so called leading newspaper.
Where is Richard Worth?
Ha ha that’s who I assumed it was about. Or Wong.
While all eyes are diverted to the riots in London let’s see what has disappeared from the MSM front pages:
The Murdoch hacking scandal and the possible involvement of government officials.
The criminal war in Libya and the escalation of said war in destroying civilian targets which is a Nuremberg level war crime.
The economic collapse and the fraudulent bankster activities leading up to it!
Imagine that, young people all over the UK finding out that a person like them, kidnapped, raped and murdered was having their phone tapped, messages deleted, police misled to whether they were still alive. The contempt. And so they riot, they mimic the man who is ultimately responsible and also go on a wild creative destructive rampage, because it felt good, because it made them richer, because that is what they see at the heart of politics and business. Wholesale robber of the future without the broken glass or fires, but far more costly. While we continue to keep Bush and Blair from seeing a day in court we will continue to suck as a civilisation. The riots were political, for crime is rampaging through our parliaments, sanctioned by our media, and nothing by spin to cover it up is all we hear in the media.
Play soccer, go to hell!
thanks TVOR, i was having a rough morning, but i do not think i have ever laughed so hard at the earnest thoughts of another human, ( so i too am probably going to hell )
let me return the favour
Hows about a presidential candidate who thinks public education would spark new Holocaust
Insane! I just heard on the BBC WS that she’s passed the first step towards Republican selection for presidential candidate. Why?????????
Relax, Bachmann won’t get the Republican nomination. Im picking it will go to a more mainstream pro-business pro-corporate sort of person.
Russel Brand on the London Riots – http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/11/london-riots-davidcameron
A very very well thought out piece that encapsulates the entire situation
Thanks for that. Surprisingly good.
Saw this this morning http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10744855
Every time I see Cameron all I see is Flashman, the school bully from Tom Browns school days. The absolute Eton imbued patrician superiority and pig ignorance of this upper class lout is beyond belief. This prig is merely the figurehead of the English class system. Sooner they have a revolution the better.
I always had this eerie feeling that I had seen Cameron before – now I know it was Flashman! What a perfect fit.
Oh how droll . . .

“Key joked that he had given Finance Minister Bill English one task this year – to get New Zealand’s credit rating equal to the United States.
The US credit rating was last week downgraded to AA+ by Standard and Poor’s.
English got one back at Key in his speech, however, joking that he had got New Zealand’s credit rating equal with the US quicker than Key had caused New Zealand to catch up with Australia.”
Next challenge Bill – match Spain’s youth unemployment.
Spanish youth unemployment 1 in 5, New Zealand’s youth unemployment 1 in 4 mission accomplished, expectations exceeded.
Next!
Followed your links travellerev. 1in 5 is the figure for those under 30 still looking for their first job.
Spanish Youth Unemployment (15- 24 years) is around 40%.
NZ figure 17.4% – http://www.dol.govt.nz/lmr/lmr-hlfs.asp. Give him another term.
Cheers RobM,
Must give them a fair chance at it I suppose. Can’t have them loose in the race to the bottom. What would their mates think! LOL.
Serious? They’re having a laugh about how their stated goals are just propaganda slogans?
More ACC jiggery pokery
Another case of the government choosing the best looking figures for their budget.
Boycott the Adidas Shirt
Oh my god! I just can’t believe it… Adidas is charging more for the All Blacks shirt in New Zealand than they charge in other countries. Call the police because I’m going to start a riot…
Nancy Wake has died – on 7th August 2011.Very good obituary at uk Independent.
Gutsy principled woman, born in NZ and went to Australia as a youngster, who was a resistance fighter in France, courageous and strong also her husband Henry
Also reading about Margaret Moth also from NZ, world renowned war photographer. Died at 59 from colon cancer (look after yourselves possums, as its something thats on the spread). She got shot in the jaw in bosnia in the 1990s and after dozens of operations and two years convalescing she asked CNN for a job. She wanted first to return to Bosnia “I want to look for my teeth”. What a woman.
Soooo….
What do libertarians think about all this central planning in Chch?
Shouldn’t it all just be left to the market to figure out what goes where?
Yep! Plonk a great big pulp and paper mill on the Avon River. Who needs urban planning when there’s money to be made. The more cheap ticky tacky buildings we can make, the more rent we’ll get. Who cares if they’re an eyesore. Paint them yellow and pink as well, the tourists will come in droves.
almost three years of inaction by National leaves parody and satire unprotected in NZ yet copyright has been sewn up tighter than Bills’s coin purse.
I know they have never been able to take a joke, especially one directed at their policies decisions and general inability to ever do well at the reins of government, but surely this is the equivalent of grabbing your rugby ball and huffing off home when you are called off-side?

Fukushima it’s not not not good.
Brief video saying a few things that the MSM are not. It seems that the experts knew within days that a meltdown had occurred but didn’t confirm so publicly for three months.

It is interesting how few comments there are on the same day that the National Party Conference is on. RWNJs otherwise engaged?
Indeed micky. Even the ones who say they’ve voted Labour all their lives and aren’t even into politics really.
Another bigot outed.
Isn’t it funny, what they vote for and against, and what they actually do in their private lives.
And the shame of lowballing that young guy, such a cheapskate!!!!! That’s the most embarassing of all.
Clearly he has no interest in actually marrying the guy, so there’s no conflict of interest at all. Right?
Anyway, the guy’s a complete idiot for using an email address that could easily be traced back to him. Evidently he doesn’t know about the myriad of free email accounts you can get, like gmail, let alone the various disposable email addresses you can get (last for 24 hours then stop working, etc).
Heh I guess there is no specific conflict of interest…but I’ll bet that this particular representative hasn’t voted for any other gay rights legislation either. (Happy to be proven wrong tho, as usual…)
