A lot of what is wrong in our country in one article. So sad.

    Vile, vulnerable worker exploitation.

    Migrant on migrant abuse.

A public service falling way below the mark, and no-one is accountable.

The market driven, sub contracting way of building infrastructure that enables this to happen.

For goodness sake, this is how far we have fallen, exploit Bangladeshis to get our broad band upgraded.

Every migrant worker is to join a union at their employer’s expense.

I was utterly appalled that INZ were handed a prosecution on a plate – and basically did nothing.

On a tangentially related topic – it also highlights the'standard business practice' of winding up one company, only to start up another doing exacctly the same thing.

We see this a lot in a whole range of building-related areas. And I think it's a rort that should be stopped. Either by putting a hard lock out on the owner registering another business in the same field for 5 years; or by allowing the law to chain the businesses together for legal purposes (fraud, IRD, employment, etc.). So that the latest incarnation of the business is liable for the debts of all the previous ones.

I can't quite work out why what you suggest is so hard to do. (Linking the people to companies).

Lack of will? Resources? Don't see an issue?

Also, the invisible mandarins of the Public Service forget or at least don't show they know who they are serving.

This should have been a straight forward prosecution. The 'not enough evidence' notice sent in error is telling.

The 'law' at the moment is that by setting up a limited liability company, the 'liabilities' are limited to that company.

However, what I'm suggesting is that these businessmen are abusing this legislation, by effetcively re-establishing the same company multiple times.

I think it would be relatively easy to stop. However, I don't see any political will to do so.

However, I don't see any political will to do so

Wouldn't want to go scaring the almighty entrepreneurial wealth creates now would we!

And all immigration must be handled by a NZ immigration department – NO private stuff. And all immigrants who come here to work must be informed on arrival about their working rights, in their own language.

See the article in today’s Stuff

I agree, the private sector has shown time and time again handling migration and employment issues is beyond them.

Not that the government is great, as INZ have shown, at least there isn't a profit motive in their incompetence.

That's the election won for Trump

This is all the media's fault, you keep saying Trumps Hitler and some nutbar will eventually believe you

    • weka 4.1

      Where have you been?!?

    • weka 4.2

Can you please not treat TS as FB/twitter, and explain what you are referring to when you comment? Doesn't need a link necessarily, just something like shots fired at Trump rally or whatever. It makes for a better commentariat

This is all the media's fault, you keep saying Trumps Hitler and some nutbar will eventually believe you

Maybe let's wait until we know what happened and who did it eh?

Trump isn't Hitler, he's an authoritarian power monger rapist who is holding the door open for fascism. People naming that aren't responsible for gun violence.

      • Puckish Rogue 4.3.1

Yeah that's the issue, demonise someone enough and they become less than human and then its a lot easier to pull the trigger on them because you're not killing a person, you're killing a rapist, a fascist, hell you're a hero

If that's what happened because we don't know the full story yet

Also what you said about Trump can just as easily be said about Biden

        • weka 4.3.1.1

are you saying that Trump isn't a rapist and protofascist or that he is but we shouldn't say so because someone might try and shoot him?

Go ahead and make the argument that Biden is a rapist and proto-fascist. No idea if he is a rapist, haven't seen anything that says he is a proto-fascist.

          • KJT 4.3.1.1.1

            "Proto fascist".

No. Just a common or garden fascist.

Then we get to the point. If someone had killed Hitler, would the world have been saved a lot of grief?

            • weka 4.3.1.1.1.1

I'm not sure he is a fascist so much as a garden variety egomaniac rich dude intent on an authoritarian state. But sure.

Plenty of sociopaths ready to take Trump's place.

              • Obtrectator

Absolutely. Trump was just the distraction, while the real villains were taking care of business out of sight. But they mightn't need to hide for very much longer.

          • Puckish Rogue 4.3.1.1.2

I know he was found guilty of sexual assault but the rape is a new one

            Got a link for that?

            • joe90 4.3.1.1.2.1

              What the judge said:

“The jury’s finding of sexual abuse therefore necessarily implies that it found that Mr. Trump forcibly penetrated her vagina,” Kaplan wrote, calling it the “only remaining conclusion.”

Kaplan also noted that the verdict form did not ask the jury to decide exactly what conduct Trump had committed, and that neither prosecutors nor Trump’s lawyers had requested it to do so.

“Mr. Trump’s attempt to minimize the sexual abuse finding as perhaps resting on nothing more than groping of Ms. Carroll’s breasts through her clothing is frivolous,” Kaplan wrote.

He added that the jury clearly found that Trump had “ ‘raped’ her in the sense of that term broader than the New York Penal Law definition.”

Like trying to have your political opponent jailed?

"Trump's attempted assassination " is a load of baloney. You don't get scratches like that from a bullet. You get half your jaw torn off by a bullet.
