Agreed. The problem with democracy is it gives the nutters too much of a voice. The Greens have shown this with their 25% vote in no confidence in the leader. 4% party vote threshold, no lower.
It's a lot more than that. I'm not even going to attempt to distill it down any further than this tweet thread does, the concept is too new to me to be able to do that yet: https://twitter.com/RobbSmith/status/1224023377020477440
Systems thinking.
Thank you for your reply. I need people to challenge my thoughts (I'm being sincere, just to be clear).
Yesterday I linked to an important Twitter thread and said I thought Jacinda was a Teal leader of an Amber party. James Shaw is a Teal leader of a Green party. This century needs Teal leadership and thinking. Maori Party are Green-Teal. TOP is Teal but ...
You change your company to produce items with a 30 year or lifetime warranty. You supply full technical diagrams for how to make all replacement parts, including 3d printing and metal fabrication instructions. You look at what Red Hat does - they sell ...
This century, we will trade water for oil.
If you look at the Twitter thread I posted earlier, the Greens are literally stuck on Green thinking. We need Teal thinking for this century. They're close and better than the alternative parties, but not quite right. Jacinda is a Teal leader of an Amber ...
The Standard really should get with the times and have the possibility of a Thumbs Up reply to comments. It's pretty Standard (pun intended) everywhere else on the internet. I know that Lynn tried it once before already years ago - in fact I was the very ...
That's not my website, I am not Robb Smith. Although very flattered anyone would think I am.
I was annoyed that your comment beat me - in the time it took me to get out of bed (where my phone told me 0 comments) and get to my computer to write it. But now all is forgiven :)
Hello all, long time, no comment. You might have seen me on interest.co.nz fighting the good fight in the comments section there, though. Anyway, I have gone through a profound maturation this year, and have been doing a hell of a lot of thinking about the...
Climate double-do, inspired by 'double-think'. Not my best but I'll keep thinking on it.
What you say is true, however from statistical sampling, your poll needs to have around 1000 responses to be valid. 500 responses, of which 53% gave no answer, means you got ~240 answers, that's 4x fewer than required to be a useful poll. It's garbage and ...
Thanks. I'm more mature now. Not sure I'm going to be posting nearly as much as I used to though.
"Peak oil" really means "Peak civilization". Which means "peak everything". Including people. Looks like Limits To Growth was more or less on track.
Yep. Warning, this is a very grim read: https://ourfiniteworld.com/2022/04/21/the-world-has-a-major-crude-oil-problem-expect-conflict-ahead/ And this one, figure 7 (Area chart showing population growth vs standard of living) is particularly chilling, I ...

It's since been marked as Deleted by GNS because it was a ghost quake. You may have felt a quake around that time, but that doesn't mean it was located where GNS pinpointed that one to.
Don't have an official time, but it felt like more than a minute in CHCH.
Been visiting enough pages with "hanmer springs" on them, that Google is now showing me ads for the thermal pools there. A bit ironic.
The pike river disaster had nothing to do with the quakes, and everything to do with the lax safety environment at the mine, and management pushing for profits ahead of everything else. The mine was also poorly designed and didn't have a proper alternative...
Insurance premiums will be rising further. Also I think there may be some insurance company bailouts - Tower was already not in the best shape thanks to Christchurch.

It seems like it was much worse in Wellington than it was Christchurch. GNS say it was a complex event, with an initial 7m event, followed by a 100s quake consistent with a 7.9m - USGS has had it pegged at 7.8m since it struck. GNS are investigating the ...
Original quake has been upgraded to 7.5 magnitude
Now the EQC merry go round will be starting back up again. Presumably this'll kill the tax cuts, I believe the government has to pay for the first $1.5b in damages before the reinsurance kicks in
The tsunami warning is due to this aftershock: http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/region/newzealand/2016p858074 Personally I don't think it'll amount to anything; it's just not big enough. Also, a quake in water doesn't mean a tsunami - it depends on the ...
Yes, I'm nowhere near the coast. I think it's unlikely anything is going to come from it; it was from this aftershock just off the coast: http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/region/newzealand/2016p858074
I'm going back to bed.
Thanks, that confirms my theory. A 4.2M quake was shown 95km west of Auckland, which is just not credible. http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/region/newzealand/2016p858034 GNS duty seismologist on RNZ has just said that many of these quakes are ghost quakes.
