Let them eat cake:
Housing Minister Nick Smith: all houses are affordable to someone
…
Asked if he could guarantee that all of the housing would be affordable, Housing Minister Nick Smith said by definition it would be.“Well of course someone has to buy the houses and so of course they will be affordable to somebody.”
The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

The site will be off line for some hours.
smart arse
quelle surprise
One is left speechless (commentless) at the arrogance!
Nick Smith – please understand that “Minister of Housing” actually means “Minister of Housing the People” not “Minister of Houses.”
What a dickhead.
ha ha well noted
Like!
He’s a National Party minister which means, first and foremost, Minister for Rich People. Throw in the housing ministry and it becomes Minister for Rich People Making Unearned Profits from Poor People and Capital Gains Through Housing.
By that claptrap of a dismissive comment, Smith has shown that he is just another puller….puller of gobbledegook and horseshit, just like his notorious boss, the Parnell puller of pony tails and bullshit.
Tyrannicide is a public virtue.
Dangerous ground. He’s inciting close attention to who “somebody” is.
Smith appears to be unable to think things through.
IMF definition of affordable is no more than 3 times income i don’t think national can deliver the economy is broken the balance between income to cost is gone incomes have been trashed the just a mountain of debt they need to be given an ultimatum fix it or else! its time to foreclose on nationals promises
Dont worry , Campbell Live will just go out and point out his comments to those who miss out at house auctions…….. wait.
Its similar to what one Rick Prick said about affordable houses a few years back.
“Houses are very affordable, I’ve got 30 !”
I am really pleased that they are finally giving up on pretense. it was about time.
National voters, supporters, enablers….these guys and the misery they create are all yours.
Be proud.
In a way I don’t blame Smith, Key, English, Joyce or Crosby Textor. I think the real blame lies with the dumb arse myopic voters who succumb to their lies, spin and bribes and keep voting in these pro wealthy, pro corporate, dishonest RW cunning rogues back into government again and again.
I worry about the present and future non-wealthy, non-privileged generations that will get the real brunt of this government’s vision-less widening income gap legacy left behind for New Zealand.
I doubt that National/ACT they will continue to be able to fool most of the people all of the time.
I also hope that Karma will find a way of paying back just deserts to these crooked RW arse holes someday.
