The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

I did that Survey yesterday but it gave little chance for me to vent my spleen on the worst aspects of this Government. Sort of muted?
+1
There was a couple of times I put ‘I choose not to answer’ because they simply did not have the necessary answer there and they were answers that should have been there. Which, of course, means that that survey will get the wrong conclusion.
I did exactly the same Draco and had the same response. It was designed with the end result in mind and will achieve exactly what its originators want it to achieve.
Which seems to be to show support for this government.
Poorly written questionnaire in general.
For example:
In general, New Zealand’s political leaders:
a) Keep their promises
b) Usually break their promises
c) Only sometimes keep their promises
b and c are the same answer…..
A lot of the other questions were open to pretty wide interpretation as well.
I liked the one about global warming which had an option to say that NZ political leaders were being mislead by false science. I think this is true, but then I realised they meant that the global warming science was the fake bit, not the paid by oil companies science that says things aren’t that bad, or the science where the NZ government think that NZ can’t do anything, or the scientists that the NZ government find to agree with their desired actions
I didn’t like the choice between China & the US. Small countries should avoid the ‘giants in the playground’ and concentrate on folk who don’t throw their weight around.
I did it yesterday.
The last box was an opportunity for a bit of a rant. I was critical of the coat tail rule, the insufficient checks and balances on the government…. and I said a lot about the way the mainstream media is skewed to conservative, against media organisations’ political polls that produced skewed headlines…. The last box is where we get our say.
Another govt promotional tool lacking obvious choices and full of loaded questions, as expected.
I chose not to answer many as the choices weren’t representative more so tailored.
The worse thing about this is that no matter how much we’re venting on this survey, I doubt there’ll be a solution anytime soon for any of our problems. Sharing our opinion here is probably going to help as much as sharing it with the dog, or screaming into a bottle.
