My regular Sunday piece of interesting, longer, deeper stories I found during the week. It’s also a chance for you to share what you found this week too. Those stimulating links you wanted to share, but just didn’t fit in anywhere (no linkwhoring). This week: Rinehart, freedom and procrastination.
Disparate links this week. Firstly, philosopher John Gray asks if democracy and freedom are as related as we often think in the west. Does the overthrow of a tyrant always improve freedom and people’s lives?
Food prices rose 10% around the world in July – as US drought conditions mean a shortage of staple foods. And with 40% of their massive corn harvest now going to biofuels, that means there isn’t food for the very poor.
Of course Gina Rinehart thinks the poor should just get off their lazy butts and give up their booze and fags and put some work in and they could be billionaires like her. It might help of course if they inherited billions from their Dads like she did of course… The full rant is quite astounding in its self-delusion and worth a read.
And as we wonder why we procrastinate so much, here’s something else to watch:
