Just when the Kiwi corporate kleptocracy was kicking into high gear to ensure that the taxpayer is properly stuck with the paying the whole of New Zealand’s Kyoto carbon bill according to the time honoured ‘privatise the profit, socialize the loss’ principle, the Labour /Green Opposition may well crank up the thermostat on the Govt yet.

Labour’s Climate Change spokesperson Charles Chauvel made public on Friday an offer from Labour and the Greens to vote with National to ensure that a viable ETS scheme is implemented.

This will be a test of John Key’s pragmatic, centrist credentials, and on the face of it, if ACT take umbrage at an end run being done around one of their core election platforms, could impose bit of climate change all of it’s own, in the so the far cosy Nat/ACT coalition hothouse.

My pick however is that ACT were happy to grab some votes off a minority constituency, but now in power, the contrarian climate change denier gig has become an embarrassment to both them and National. This offer from Chauvel may well come as a happy bit of face-saving all round.
