Where’s the White House invite, John?

John Key proved one thing this week. When it comes to international affairs, he’s full of s**t.

Despite all his claims about being best buds with Barack Obama, he didn’t even get an invite to meet him from top U.S. diplomat Hillary Clinton.

He probably didn’t help future chances either by referring to Hillary as “President Clinton”. You sure are a class act John.

edit: Clinton may yet announce an invite over the next day and a half. If she does I will be the first to admit I’m wrong.

  1. To me that stuff up from Key calling the old Hillary hag a president just goes to show how much the hen-pecked gutless pc wimp is intimidated by powerful women. What a sick joke he is. Would a real leader please stand up.

I must ask Farrar if John Boy asked the president about her pearl necklace. Why bother and go fuck your demerits.

    • Marty G 1.1

hmm. you really have a problem with women, eh d4j?

Anyway, that President Clinton gaffe was actually really bad:

      – puts her in her husband’s shadow
      – she wanted to be president
      – she’s here representing the man who beat her to the job

      • QoT 1.1.1

Pretty much the worst gaffe possible under the circumstances, but hardly surprising – except that no one on his staff apparently thought about his foot-in-mouth issues and ensured that it wouldn’t happen.

        • Cnr Joe 1.1.1.1

surely his team are cultivating a Bush Jnr style of mangled english (manglish?) sooo endearing to their core electorate
Makes me look forward to some of his maori pronunciation – can’t be good.

        • Lew 1.1.1.2

Nah. People using the #HillaryFauxPas hashtag thought up some which were much worse. But nobody thought it would actually happen…

        • Im begining to seriously wonder if Key has a drink problem! The continuous slurring of his speech . The blunder regarding President(sic) Clinton is only one of many . Remember his Leader of the Labour Party gaff. Its quite a list. Also he is often seen drinking alchohol . Helen Clark always drank a soft drink when in public. Whatever do these overseas diplomats think especially if they at some time dealt with Helen Clark .

          • B 1.1.1.3.1

heh heh i think you’re right! remember how pissed he was the night he got elected?…hillarious!

      • Lew 1.1.2

And also demeaning to NZ, as well — the full quote was “So, President Clinton – I’m sorry. (Laughter.) (Applause.) Secretary Clinton – great. I thank you for your time here in New Zealand and I look forward to seeing President Obama when he is here in Japan next week.”

Emphasis mine. Seriously, you couldn’t make this shit up.

Could be that JK is forecasting the future … if America had her instead of Obama there wouldn’t be all the talk about him turning America into a Muslim country and the other crazy ideas I heard about recently in the States.
With regard to D4J’s vitriol I’m reminded of an older american voter’s comment … “I’m trying to decide what is best for the country but all I hear is slagging” I think contributors here could well pick up on that point … much of what I have been reading lately is petty mindless nonsense.

    • QoT 2.1

No, if Hillary had won they’d be screaming about her turning the US into a lesbian feminist witch-coven where All True Men will be sent to reeducation camps.

      • Cnr Joe 2.1.1

true that – can’t keep a good tea party down! (comment loaded successfully with no slagging)

        captcha – loaded

      • Vicky32 2.1.2

I wondered what was going on when the Dem primaries came down to Hillary Clinton vs Obama.. America is a very male-dominated society now, as all highly-militarised societies have to be. So, I knew Obama was being “selected” and IMO, set up to fail. After Obama, there won’t be another democrat in power for 40 years!

  3. freedom 3

Hillary’s visit delivered one clear message
they will take our soldiers but don’t want our trade

    capcha: message
    the bots have spoken

  4. Carol 4

And this apologist is doing his best to spin JK out of his incompetence:

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/4310565/Clumsy-full-stop-to-hosting-a-world-power

It could have been an embarrassing gaff. But somehow, it was a fitting, clumsy full-stop on a very Kiwi effort at hosting the world’s most powerful woman.

Mr Key and Foreign Minister Murray McCully were obviously – and understandably – a bit nervy at the press conference to announce the Wellington Declaration.

I think it just shows Johnny is so focused on getting a photo op with a Prez, that he was flustered by being one step removed from reaching his dream.

On the US president choice, I always thought it was a bit of a toss up as to whether Obama or Clinton would have been the best president. However, I though Clinton would maybe have the benefit of some knowledge in dealing with the blocks with the real power in the US – corporates, etc.

Fairly early on, it looked like the MSM swung behind Obama, probably as a way to keep Clinton out of the White House. That seemed to indicate to me, that the powerful corporates saw Obama as less of a threat. Also, Obama was getting support from some of the big financial interests fairly early on (Goldman Sachs, I think as an example). So he was already a bit disempowered before he even started.

But, really, as time goes on JK looks less and less up to the PM job. Next time can we have a proper Prime Minister, please.

    • Cnr Joe 4.1

clumsy …. kiwi way …what are these morons doing to us?

      • Bunji 4.1.1

Oh the cultural cringe. We’re not worthy, we don’t know any better, aren’t to know about these diplomatic niceties such as giving people their correct title… We can’t really expect to have an international statesperson as a leader…
Oh, except Peter Fraser, Helen Clark, Norman Kirk, David Lange… (strange how they’re all from one side of the House when it comes to NZ footing it well on the world stage…)

  5. Kenny 5

Key won’t get an invite to the White House (if at all) until Julia Gillard has been there.

    Simple

    • Akldnut 5.1

He clearly just got out of a shower of “fairy dust at the end of the garden.”

    • Colonial Viper 5.2

Well in that case its quite likely that Goff will slide in and get the White House invitation first 😀

  6. Colonial Viper 6

Give Key a break, who was merely star-struck and misspoke.

Exactly like how he was star-stuck with Paul Henry, when Henry was trying to pull off his racist BS on publicly owned TV.

  7. felix 7

I thought an invitation to the white house was pretty standard in these circumstances. Bit sad not to get one.

Probably for the best though. Can’t have wee johnny stumbling pissed around Washington saying “I’m here to vusut Presudunt Abama Bun Ladun akschully”

Still must be painful for him not to get the invite, ‘specially as he’s so tight with Obama that he can call him up anytime he likes.

    • Jum 7.1

Priceless, Felix; your pisstake on JKeyll made me lol.

I’ll bookmark this thread so that I can cheer myself up when I have to read the 3rd world New Zealand media kissing up to NAct.

  8. BLiP 8

    I’ll bet Bronagh’s pleased.

  9. Who’s going to being giving out White house invitations after Key calling the Secretary of State the President, then insulting her by ‘treating’ her to a poxy bloody barbie?
I guess we should be grateful John didn’t just defrost a couple of Big Ben pies and throw around a few Lion Red cans. What a parochial small town hick.

  10. M 10

If Duck and Cover doesn’t get an invite he’ll just blat off to Hawai’i to soothe his battered ego. I hope that after the Hobbit comment about Bronagh he wasn’t allowed to visit his largesse (boner) on her for some time, after all he’s no oil painting himself.

  11. Draco T Bastard 11

Well, reported on TV3 news that an invite will be coming in the new year. Better make it a late election otherwise Jonkey will miss out 😀
