Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
To blame the media is somewhat nieve. The Labour Party's strategy was to run a non Presidential style campaign while the other parties all ran this style. I suggest that the LP's media strategy influence what is run in the press and if their focus is on ...
killinginthenameof back at 6:02pm - look at his archives for Oct 2005 - there are several posts where he quotes the Cabinet Manual. ACT's press releases in the same month are also interesting.
I didn't see the debate, but as the best that Farrar could come up with was "CLARK AND KEY COME OUT EVEN IN SECOND LEADERS DEBATE" from NZPA, on that basis I would give it to Clark.
"I opted out ..., you don't have a choice" I don't understand your logic - you DO have a choice Brett (as you indicated) to opt out.
Joel - there is currently a 2% contribution rate, but it is being phased out, and is not well publicised. The changes proposed by National wouldn't be so bad if they had employers matching contributions up to 4%, thus providing an easier entry level for ...
I don't see "The Standard" header at the top - just a blank space. I'm running on Firefox 3.0.3
Good point re Aussie Super Redlogix. National are always saying that we want to be like them. However, I do tend to agree that 4% is quite a high start point - a colleague of mine, with a student loan, hasn't joined, but would certainly consider it at 2%. ...
Key has done what the previous National Leader who he admired (Rob Muldoon) did - stuffed a good superannuation scheme! All he has tried to achieve with his tinkering is get a tax cut bigger than Labour's - but why not try something more interesting, like ...
Not just on the Shore Bill - in the Eastern suburbs it's the same pattern - Labour billboards knocked down, National's and Act's left standing.
I posted this on an earlier thread, but (imho) think that it's worth sharing again! Why is it taking so long for Key to set up a blind trust? He has been trying to mislead the general public by saying that it was his trust that was trading in the shares (...
yep - follow the money!
But T-rex, they have not got a "genuinely good candidate" - what are their options? All the experienced MP's have got huge amounts of baggage so they are left with a contender who seems to forget that he is now open to a lot more scrutiny than when he was ...
ghostwhowalks highlights some good points about Key's Trust from the NZ Herald this morning. Also, why is it taking so long for Key to set up a blind trust? He has been trying to mislead the general public by saying that it was his trust that was trading ...
Rodney's degree is in economics isn't it?
My guess is that the lack of proper authorisation was a deliberate ommission in the hope that they will get to look like martyrs (and get exposure in the media) when they are fined or whatever the penalty is. Once againj, just Rodney playing games because ...
Curiablog still hasn't blogged about the last Herald poll, so don't hold your breath waiting for a post on this one.
Thanks Lew. I heard it during the after 10pm round-up so wasn't sure when it was originally broadcast. It's worth a listen as it clearly indicates that the ACC proposals are not all upside for those involved - providers included.
but they're the party for business aren't they?! Slightly related: Did anyone else hear the piece on Nat Radio yesterday where physios (small business people) were saying that they do NOT want de-reg of ACC (for a variety of good reasons)?
And prior to the w/e National support was at it's lowest level since April, according to Roy Morgan. This latest poll hasn't got a lot of air-time - even curiablog hasn't managed to notice it.
or he was pissed
Isn't the real question "what will they really do, should they get into power?". They have flip-flopped over a number of issues, so chances are they will flip-flop back with lame excuses as to why they are not keeping their promises.
For a brief minute, let's accept that he was misquoted. What did Shane Ardern really mean to say then? ok, the brief minute is now over.
"... a focus on an integrated economy for almost 50 years has yielded tremendous growth and wealth" But at what cost to personal freedom? - want to buy a car there? Join a very long queue simply to get permission to buy one.
So by your logic Richard, advertising has no effect on what people spend their money on. I agree that it is hard to measure - I mentioned it because of the recent reporting of the stats, but is also a good example of the longer term thinking that has gone ...
Richard's arguments are straight from the Tony Ryall school of logic - "Everything they do this year is electioneering". In this case it's "All Govt expenditure is waste" - but they both forget that so far the only policies from National are "We'll do that...
No one was claiming that Govt spending (NOT Labour spending!!) was the sole reason for the drop in smoking rates, but it is a bit absurd to try and argue that it had no effect. You seem to be of the mind-set that this Govt can do nothing right.
Richard - here is another one (from the stuff.co.nz site): "Results from the Health Ministry's New Zealand Health Survey, released today by Prime Minister Helen Clark, show the prevalence of smoking among those aged 15 and over at 19.9 percent. It is the ...
I see that the updated logo has 2 spin cycles!! Well done.
T-rex - I obviously failed in my attempt at humour. I was making a reference to the time that a blog (not sure if it was the Standard or kiwiblogblog) got a letter from National telling them not to use an image of John Key.
I like the logo, but if the past is anything to go by you'll be getting a cease and desist letter shortly!
