     Really? He’s basically a dictator responsible for invasion of Ukraine and Georgia, detention and murder of political opponents and journalists, sponsoring the Assad regime so he can sell more guns – basically, he’s abysmal. If you think he’s great, that really is a damning commentary on you.

       What about Saudi Arabia invasion/bombing ( with direct US help)of its small neighbour Yemen after their president fled to Riyadh ?

         Of course it isn’t ok when western powers do it, and I think the people culpable for that behaviour are also awful ‘leaders’. But let’s not go around pretending that Putin is any kind of leader that we should seek to have in the world.

             Newsflash. We still can say that people should be charged with war crimes for their actions. We can still deplore war, and arbitrary detention, and suppression of political opposition, and torture. We can still say leaders are bad leaders, and we can still criticise people who laud leaders who do those things.
             There’s more than a few people on here who are seemingly willing to ignore their principles to praise Putin.

           Putin is an outstanding protector of Russian national interests.

           And his recent record 89% approval rating demonstrates that the Russian people approve of the job he is doing on that.

           And which exactly of the things I stated has Putin not been responsible for, then?

           The Americans have killed far more civilians during Putin’s reign than he has.

           Further the Americans are in Syria illegally, trying to (again) illegally overthrow a sovereign government using proxy Islamist fighters.

             Again, I am not saying that the US are in any way good. More than one group of people in the world can be terrible at the same time.

             Putin might well protect Russian interests, but that is basically protecting the oligarchy interests. That doesn’t necessarily extend to the Russian people – and certainly doesn’t extend to those he has arbitrarily imprisoned, detained, killed, and so on. People who aren’t ethnic Russians who are living in Donbass, Crimea, or South Ossetia are also unlikely to think he’s a good leader.

             And really, % approval ratings aren’t a good measure of whether someone is doing a good job. I’m quite sure Kim Jong Un has a better approval rating than Putin’s – that does not mean he is a better leader.

   Jeremy Corbyn has only been the leader of the Labour party for a few weeks but he has already delivered significant change in how politics is conducted and in the direction of travel of the Labour party. It would be easy, in the light of the froth and noise of minor controversies, to lose sight of just how profound the change has already been.

   It seems that not doing what the Tories say works for Labour. Strange that eh?

   Kelsey on the TPP not being a done deal. Spread the word,

   The fact many people think the TPPA is a done deal and there’s nothing we can do shows how effective the government’s propaganda campaign has been. That’s what they need people to believe so they can kill off one of the most effective public campaigns to oppose a core government policy for several decades. And they have done so despite conceding the deal would deliver almost none of the gains they made a bottom line, and keeping the text secret so no-one can categorically rebut the content or omissions in their ‘fact sheets’.

   The truth is that the TPPA can’t be signed for at least another three months. Until then New Zealand has not been committed in any formal legal manner to the political deal. Even then, the country won’t be bound irrevocably to the TPPA for probably another two years.

   This is no time for surrender or fatigue. Other countries are fighting to ensure the political price is too high for their governments to do so and that opposition parties make an uncompromising commitment to reject the still-secret deal. We need to do that here, starting with a mass turnout to the protests around the country, especially in Auckland and Wellington, on Saturday 14 November.
