Indeed…1.3 billion to rail (including diesel locos) as opposed to 800 million for 24 km of highway….Climate Commission report response cant come soon enough.

And we can bet they will announce tomorrow more precious funding wasted on the Mill Rd project that duplicates Auckland's Southern Motorway to service more sprawl. Robertson is on the wrong side of this one. Dunce.

Some suburbs in South Auckland will be jerking into life like Frankenstein if this 'bright-line' effect works out – like being stuck by lightning!

Knew it. Bezzant has Goodfellow's fingerprints all over him.

Honestly, I do not know why National don't get rid of Goodfellow. He is the root of all their problems. The longer he stays, the longer they will look extremely poisonous to the voting public.

    Long may it continue.

Remember, Goodfellow stole the wife of a National MP and colleague so Bezzant's behaviour is probably nothing to him.

There's a lot of auto-moderation going on at the moment. Let me know what words are triggering it and I will not use them.

    Thanks!

I like the concept of ‘traffic evaporation’.

Wishful thinking. Places like Paris already have good public transport in place.

France is years ahead of us: despite having led the way in efficient diesels, France has recognised that diesel will always have nasty particulates that make it a worse polluter than efficient petrol. Have we even thought about that here?

We don't have great public transport, and we are pouring thousands of extra vehicles onto our roads each month, without taking enough vehicles off the roads.

No way is our traffic going to 'evaporate'.

France has the population density to make mass public transport work efficiently.

Then the levels of tax French workers pay is nearly double that of NZers .

Then their topography is generally more friendly especially around the big population centres.

Diesels were all the fashion for a long time in France because of better fuel efficiency but research showed showed damaging particulate pollution.

Their are a much higher percentage of diesels on the roads in France than here in NZ. But because of strict pollution controls cars older than 5 years are uneconomical to keep on the road because of worn motors.along with an cash deposit for updating your car to keep French car production financialy viable .The french car fleet is changing rapidly to less polluting more safe cars quickly ,the average age of their car fleet would be less than half of ours.
