Did a bit of a roadtrip with the kids a couple weeks ago that included going down the Buller River, and saw tons more weka than I've ever seen before in the area (including roadkill 🙁 ).

Camped at a secret little spot beside the Buller that I spent a lot of time at 30 to 35 years ago and had never seen weka at. But one family of weka came around as soon as we arrived, and in the morning there were two families of weka foraging around.

But I didn't see any evidence of rat corpses in the stacks of detritus left by the recent floods that left all the corpses in Westport. So I really doubt they came down the river, I reckon Graeme prob'ly nailed it, that it was likely a brodifacoum operation closer to Westport, like at the dump pretty much next to where they were found.

I have soooo much more respect for our contributor on this site under the pseudonym "Weka" as i can see what he/she is capable of 😉.Pity we did not see if there was a final act.

Pity we cannot introduce Weka into some of the predator free Islands around the country for many who have never encounter these great birds. As I understand that they would place pressure on other species. Great to have seen a few recently when walking around the Anakiwa area, one with a gammy leg that was stationed by one of the picnic areas.

Tweet from Russell Brown I only just saw 2 days later…let's see how this goes.. #DarnTech

    Russell Brown (@publicaddress)

This is really the saddest thing: a grown man hiding copies of a women’s magazine in a shop then proudly reporting to his “team leader”. https://t.co/Qu9ZNAKfZE— Russell Brown (@publicaddress)

Hiding magazines so they don’t sell because of the PM being featured on the front. They of course miss the point – she is on there because she is popular and does sell magazines. Think I might have to search one out to buy..

      Confession time?

A looooong time ago when I was young , I was delivering Labour Party pamphlets and there was a Nat ahead delivering Nat pamphlets so I took all the Nat pamphlets out of the letter boxes and replaced with the Labour pamphlets. 👿

Yeah but that seems cute coming from you (!)

+ those moving the magazines, although technically not stealing, are in fact removing the ability for the shop attempting to sell those magazines to profit. That's where the greatest loss is. It doesn't punish Labour at all.

It's getting weird when disaster response is the best thing going for this government …

    … and the previous one.

    • Incognito 4.1

The previous one was a disaster.

      The electorate responded.

Now the Opposition is a disaster.

Anyone know if there was a particular reason for Bridges’ not being in the House today? It was left to Bennett to give the Opposition’s response to Ardern’s Ministerial Statement on the Whakaari/White Island disaster and to kick off Question Time (in which she did a shit job incidentally, blathering on about rents and petrol prices).

The world is yet again praising Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for her "classy" response to the White Island volcano disaster.

Fancy this being in the Herald!

What an incredible year it has been for Jacinda. She must be both mentally and physically exhausted after two huge tragedies to cope with as well as being prime minister and bringing up a little girl.

Sure, she has loads of help but she is still the one in charge and the buck stops with her when things go wrong. Here's hoping everyone including the media give her the space to have a good, long relaxing holiday.

Btw, thanks for your supportive comment the other day ianmac. I've been off-line due to technical update requirements.
