One of the people David Seymour spoke to about 'de-escalating' the protest was Glenn Innwood ex whaling lobbyist. All looking rather murky. https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018830968/ex-whaling-lobbyist-one-of-those-seymour-spoke-to-on-protest

Green Party looking to establish a Ministry for Rainbow Communities.

In my maiden speech, I said that change happens at many levels, but some change – for Takatāpui, Māori, and Rainbow people – can only happen here, in Government.

That’s why the Greens successfully put pressure on the Labour Government to ban conversion practices. It’s why we celebrated the passing of a law to allow our takatāpui, trans, intersex and non-binary whānau to uphold their rights to self-identify their gender on their birth certificate. But it’s still not enough.

And this is why today, in conjunction with Auckland Pride month, I’ve announced that the Green Party is calling for the establishment of a Ministry for Rainbow Communities.

Unable to link. Email received from Dr Elizabeth Kerekere.

I always thought that having a Minister for Racing (currently Grant Robertson) was silly.

This sounds even more ridiculous. Why don't we have a Ministry of Equality in Politics instead? They could start by rearranging the Green Party List to ensure something nearer to equality of rankings by sex. That would reduce Dr Kerekere to a lower position and see that she was replaced by a representative of the XY species. On current polling she would not be there after the next election.

That would help to meet the intent of the party rule that "b) Gender – a maximum of 60% of candidates shall be men; a maximum of 60% of candidates shall be women."

As of now this could be met by putting up 50 candidates with the first 30 being women (or men) and the last 20 being of the opposite sex. That is surely not what the people who wrote the rules envisaged is it?

Interested to know what people think of a rainbow Ministry

      100% in support.

        • What would be the purpose of a Rainbow Ministry. Already a lot of govt money spent on Inside Out training public servants on gender ideology.
        • I think we should prioritise spending money on lifting people out of poverty, paying nurses and other health workers a lot more, a lot more, increasing ICU beds, buying drugs currently not available for cancer patients just to name some.
        • btw I think many public servants in Wellington are vastly overpaid and I am not sure what value the Child’s Commission adds. I would be genuinely open to hearing what the CC commission has achieved btw. It’s just that things seem far worse for kids since they have been around.

          .

No, No, No !!! … that would constitute ghastly social democracy and actually produce significant health improvements among the wider population … it might even benefit some (ewww !) uncouth poorer white or asian people … and, as we know, they're all Nazis and need to be pushed to the back of the line in health delivery … no, the esoteric whims & self-interested authoritarian power-plays of various socially-divorced members of the professional middle-class should be the historic mission of the Left from now on.

Time for a Dictatorship of the Chattering Classes … the downtrodden of Kelburn, Wadestown, Ponsonby & Grey Lynn were so right to rise up out of their squalor & seize control of the State … the hoi polloi must be educated that pampered, privileged upper-middle Wokedom possess unusually-refined moral sensibilities & clearly know what's best … as they'll melodramatically tell you themselves, they have so much to teach the rest of us.

            • Love it Swordfish.

            hope you are doing ok……

Cheers Anker … mid-way through a month off Chemo … so feeling pretty good at the moment considering the circumstances.

              • Molly

Ditto on the well wishes, swordfish.

Was back in the infusion centre yesterday (not for chemo, thankfully) having a yarn with a couple of other women there for chemo. I hope it's not too draining for you.

              • Patricia Bremner

Hoping you keep feisty Swordfish Cheers and go well.

              • Anker

Glad to hear Swordfish. I had some radiation therapy many years ago and I think the half way mark of treatment was a good milestone to have reached.

Thinking of you and wishing you all the very best

"What would be the purpose of a Rainbow Ministry. "

And that is the question that is not answered by the press release.

Lots of public advocacy, and also lots of direct advocacy for kids in state care/custody. Lots of work on child poverty, for example the Child Poverty Monitor.

Bumped into it a few times over the years, and it's funny how many times the office of the CC has been key in getting money, NGOs, and/or researchers together when the groups previously didn't know about each other's work.

I have a lot of respect for that crowd. In my experience, they're also the ones most likely to actually ask kids what they want, rather than just running ahead and "helping" the children while forgetting to ask the kids what's important to them.

Another small step towards to the Ministry we all need and want.

      • Molly 3.1.4

Do you know what the gaps they are trying to fill here by creating a Ministry?

What would be the purpose of it?

    • fender 3.2

Yeah we need a huge increase in ministries right now, if only to give the middle finger to those who whine about bloated and wasteful government spending. At least it will give the talkback cultists something else to rage over.

So lets create a whole sweep of new departments:

Ministry of Man/dates. Ministry of Boomers. Ministry of Boy Racers. Ministry of Pale Stale. Ministry of Proper Parking. Ministry of Anti-Vax. Ministry of Wasting Tax. Ministry of Despondency. etc. etc..

If the rationals for the police to not shift the protestors is logistics and avoiding escalation, how to make sense of this?

    • This is becoming a massive problem with no easy solution.
    • I still believe trying to negotiate with the protesters is the best way forward. David Seymour was right to begin this process and of course Mallard is now following in his footsteps. I agree that before talks, vechiles should to be shifted and some sort of agreement about people leaving the grounds, with maybe a small contingent left. These people how now set up a community though and won’t leave easily.
    • I haven’t read the list of demands from the protesters, cause I am not particularly interested in them. But I think the govt could look to redeploy cops, nurses etc that have left their jobs cause of the mandates into non contact roles. I have already made suggestions about this.

Russell Brands not far off the mark I reckon https://youtu.be/jMC_8q49rlM

      • Anker 5.1.1

Cricklewood Russell Brand articulates exactly what I think. That is a great clip.

        thank you for posting.

I see Sir Russell Coutts is heading for Wellington to join protesters.

i think your comment below maybe correct about it tanking the govt.

we live in very unstable, uncertain times. Hold on to your hats everyone

    • Cricklewood 5.2

No one will shift anything momentum is growing now, listend to some talk back for the first time in years was overwhelmingly antimandate, well known people are heading into Wellington amd sticking their heads above the pulpit. Can actually see this tanking this govt now.

By the time NZ wakes up this morning, Vlad has cross his Rubicon as it’s looking pretty bad around the breakaway Regions in Eastern Ukraine with a reported 1000% increase of shelling by Russia that on top of a number crease fire violations from the Minsk Agreements.

Meanwhile Kiev, Heavy white smoke has been reported coming out of the Russian Embassy, leading to speculation they busily burning classified information.

Old mate from Belarus, has said in public that he is prepared for Russia to store its Tactical Nukes & other “Special Weapons” on Belarus soil.

Vlad is currently preparing a speech that he give to the Russian Duma with the next few hrs, probably before the UNSC meets in 3hrs time & Vlad has deported the US deputy ambassador from Moscow.

My gut feeling & assumption i made Twitter later this afternoon while chatting to a couple of NZ Peace Activists. That Vlad will be like any other One Band who his a Totalitarian/ Authoritarian Muppet & like most in past. Who have backed themselves into or overplayed hand in Chess, will always let their ego get the better of them.

If Russia gets bogged down during the break in of Ukraine’s Defensive Lines, Vlad is going to be in trouble, but if he succeeds? Then he will have a some short to medium success, but the ultimate winner of this pointless stupidity will be China long term.

    Why?

Russia has a falling Birth rate with a falling population in the largest country in the world, which means long term China could possibly start to eye Eastern Russia?

Be prepared to watch what China does now IRT to Taiwan & in the SCS & Iran do now since the US is distracted in Eastern Europe.

The only good news now for NZ, the Shenanigans in Wellington with the Anti Vax loonies/ Village idiots will become fish’n chips news ie in 4-6 of the National Daily’s & on the TV News just before the Sports of Finance News.

    Cheers,

    Scud.

    Who's doing the reporting Scud

Ever considered that the "false flag" scenario spouted by the US is a perfect cover for Ukraine (or some of the frontline militia, not subject to Ukrainian control) to start in earnest shelling.,right when Scholz has managed to persuade Zelensky to honour the Minsk agreements, and the whole matter is now being discussed in the UNSC.

If anyone was of a mind to scuttle the Minsk agreements being implemented, which would mean a huge easing of tensions, now would be the time to provoke the Russians into defending the Donbas. As a nice little bonus, the cover to shut down Nord stream 2 once and for all

Now I wonder who would welcome the shutting down of Nord Stream 2 ? Umm, on the tip of my tongue, ….not Germany, not Russia, ummm, could it be the US?
