Those polled – 52-38% think New Zealand is going in the wring direction – which would explain why the coalition would not be re-elected on the party support numbers.

Not surprisingly Luxon is struggling for favourability (below 50%) and he and Hipkins are at 25% for preferred PM.

It is the first time the right coalition of three has been ahead in the Talbot Mills Research poll since June 2023.

All hopes are on Nicola Willis when she delivers the ‘no bells, no whistles’, ‘DVD & ice cream’ budget in 13 days. I can’t wait to buy a one-scoop of vanilla and rent A Clockwork Orange because that somehow reminds me of this coalition government. That said, any resemblance of characters in the movie to NZ politicians is purely coincidental, of course.

      The Post article includes:

"Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has also been unable to match the favourability rating of the past three elected prime ministers, six months into a new Government. His favourability, at 42%, falls short of the same rating for Jacinda Ardern at 75%, John Key at 64%, and Helen Clark at 77%.

It was also lower than Labour leader Chris Hipkins’ favourability, according to this poll, which stood at 52%.

Hipkins also achieved the “highly unusual feat” of drawing equal with Luxon in the question of who was the preferred prime minister, which both gaining the support of 25% of those surveyed".

This is good news for Labour. I wonder how the questions about favourability and preferred prime minister differ.
