Need a laugh, and can handle the New England accent. Please note, not a pure gentleman is Bill Burr. Like his wife though, she is very funny.

Bill Burr is one of the smartest, and most decent, commentators in the United States. A few weeks ago he put one of America’s stupidest, and least decent, commentators firmly back in his box…

I seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time on here today. Procrastination before doing a project is all that I can see to account for it.

I'm replacing the desktop right column tabs to get rid of the obsolete plugin that is stopping me from moving from PHP 7.4 which was end-of-life in before the start of 2023, and moving forward to PHP 8.3.

It is an annoying switch because the direct solutions available are really javascript heavy, tool feature rich, and suffering the same inherent kind of long-term issues as the existing plugin.

Plus not that suitable for the new site theme I'm working on. Or they are too simplistic and suffer from context feature problems especially with regards to caching.

Looks like I will have to write a standalone tab solution that just does the small requirement that I actually need. Probably just need a local shortcode solution, with css and a minimal javascript support. I wrote one back in 2006….

Ok ..if we leave that in your capable hands ! Im pretty much ok on Bikes…and even EBikes (have done some Shimano and Bosch short courses) Are you still using your E Bike ? There has been some amazing tech advances lately…

      New site theme sounds interesting.

Yes, currently still have my old Smartmotion e-urban from 2017 – rear wheel hub drive 21Ah battery (756wh) with 26" tires. Like this one but red

It is still a good bike and still has lots of grunt in the battery despite 4000 odd kilometres I have used it for. But it has a classic bike top bar, and as I am getting older and my back stiffer. So throwing my leg over the seat is getting increasingly harder. Too much time sitting in a chair in front of a computer.

But last year I brought a Merida espresso CC 400 EQ step through, 630wh mid motor with 29" tires.

Still getting through the usual issues like busting chains. Between my weight, leg muscles and the motor I have broken two chains so far. Changed tires to good puncture proof road tires (the Maxix knobblies were a bit much).

But mostly falling off it and damaging myself on my first ride. I am pretty much replicating what happened in 2017. I always seem to forget to do some riding in a carpark until I know the weight and balance. I live up by KRd and everywhere is somewhat dangerous to ride on a new bike. I got caught by a far lighter front wheel twisting while going over a high driveway rim. Face planted under the bike.

Just got around to finally putting a towbar on the old station wagon and buying a Thule EasyFold XT 933 2 bike rack so I can get out of Auckland and its dangerous roads and do some more relaxing riding. Waiting on the supplemental plate to arrive, then I'll head to Rotorua and ride down there with my father on his old e-bike. The cycleways there look pretty safe and extensive.

Been working on the new theme since early this year. Just never seem to have time to polish all of the bits. Got sidetracked by learning new languages and upgrading my c++ to 20/23 standards

Hi L Prent. Sorry didnt see your reply as off computer. Yea those old Smartmotion bikes were ( and obviously still are : ) good bikes.

Re chains. Your old Bike would have been 8 speed? I did look up your Merida…they good bikes too. Is it a ..10 speed?

Herein lies some of problem. Some history which you might know : Shimano was the driver of more speeds . First in Mtb's (for racing then.."everyone" wanted) from 18..to 21 then 24, 27 even 30 ! As in 3 front x rear cassette. Of course with a finite amount of room at rear for bigger range cassette, the chain became much narrower. Not so problematic for racers..as teams changed them after every competition. But general public ?

Anyway E bikes went bit the same more speeds/narrow chain….

And as you say..getting more Powerful motors !

Re yours, does have a KMC chain ? They were not so good..but pretty OK now I think ?

Oh also ..did it break randomly or at join link?

Oh and Rear derailleur adjustment crucial with more gears !

Alternative chains are Shimano or SRAM …(pretty expensive )

What chainlube use ? There are..many ! But some made specifically for Ebikes. And..I have tried..many : )

29 " wheels are good ( rolling diameter : ) What tyre pressure use ? Rule of thumb front less than rear…

Oh great to hear you getting on 2 Wheels still…and with your Father no less ! Awesome

And the old bike truism..Keep Upright : )

Umm. this looks feasible, the trick is the css selector :nth-of-type and sibling divs to display block

      https://codepen.io/ragavanrajan/pen/RQKBPV

As it says it is a simple tabs model. Only CSS. Without js, bugs, position-absolute.

      Procrastination over. Coffee required..

can you please fix the commenting issue in the Desktop version on mobile 🙏🙏🙏

      • lprent 3.3.1

Maybe. Talked to the creator of the plugin they we are using and he is as puzzled as I am about the missing cursor.

I haven't found a working solution for the missing cursor issue. Can't isolate

But I will just drop to a much simplier comment area. Something like markup or just straight text as being a user defined option.

Note that bit about the "symbolic" ear bandages. Not too improbable a step from there to actually shooting off a portion of your ear in cultish solidarity ….
