I had to keep reminding myself she was talking about Trump and not NZ's Luxon and the coalition of chaos………

I can't recall where I copied this from but it summarises the path of the last 10 month…..

    IMPROVING MORALE?

Captain Bligh is purported to have said, "The floggings will continue until morale improves." This fiercely punitive government seems to agree.

Problems with the public health service? Sack the Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand board and restructure the health system (yet again!).

Problems with Maori health? Disband the Maori Health Authority.

Problems with smokers dying? Dismantle the plan designed to save lives.

Problems with inter-island ferries? Cancel the contract for new ones.

Problems with traffic congestion? Increase speed limits, cut public transport fare subsidies and bring in tolls.

Problems with child poverty? Swap nutritious school lunches for cheaper, less-nourishing ones, and lower standards so that targets can be met.

Problems with potholes? Carry out temporary fills, then let overloaded trucks open them up again.

Problems with water? Jettison Three Waters, then devolve responsibility to 10 new council-run entities.

Problems with lack of affordable housing? Review the (successful) shared- ownership housing scheme.

Problems with old, overcrowded, damp classrooms? Cancel plans to replace them. And so on.

In spite of all the flogging, however, morale has not improved. How odd.

My son's significant other has started a journey in real estate. She said tonight at tea that at the firm she works for, in a small rural town, 50 tenants have gone into arrears due to having their benefits cut due to the new initiatives.

These floggings have a human price.

In a small rural town, are the landlords of those 50 properties going to find another 50 better tenants within the notice period?

They are also flogging their own.

This might end in rather pretty tears
