The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Can anyone say whether a proposed Green/Labour agreement has been reached and whether it has gone out to the Green Party membership?
Is it all members or a subset panel?
Maybe the cannabis situation is holding up an announcement.
I want to know the new cabinet positions.
I really want transformation in ACC for historical sexual assault cases and organisations who worsened the mental injury even though they were not the offender of the sexual assault/s. Gaslighting on its own can be very harmful.
In hindsight a referendum on medicinal cannabis may of been the smart move.
Crazy as when the pain becomes too much you can shorten your life. Being able to choose cannabis over opioids has for now been denied for pain relief.
Not sure why you think a referendum that is already permissible would be a good idea "Medicinal cannabis products are only available to patients on prescription from a doctor" ?
From reading comments it is the price and availability being issues

Not sure what you are trying to say there. Most people who use cannabis for pain relief can't access medicinal cannabis and/or it's not in a suitable form. The referndum was going to change that and 53% of NZers said it's ok to kill yourself if you end up in too much pain and are going to die anyway, but we don't think you should be able to access this safe and highly effective medicine
(admittedly, that might not be the same group of voters, but there's some obvious overlap).
I could only see Sativix spray on prescription which is only one product. I meant to grow your own or get it from a cannabis pharmacy for medicinal purpose at an affordable cost.
Thanks for the links.
Not broad enough at all.
Not according to Andrew Little (though I disagree),,,his position is that cannabis is effectively decriminalised…there are a few thousand who may disagree
did he say that?
He said Labour would not make any moves to decriminalise.
And it is not effectively decriminalised now, police have scarcely changed their approach – it's power over people they can leverage (as they did pros prior to change there 2002/3).
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/referendum-results-govt-rules-out-cannabis-law-reform-for-foreseeable-future/IO5TLS4BECF253V4ZHWBH3DMGA/
He also mentioned a change in law in 2018…I assume that was the changes to the Misuse of drugs Act that allowed for medicinal use of cannabis
And has he monitored the minimal impact it made … tokenism and platitudes.
Little would now look like Ken Douglas in his corporate friendly makeover suit in the eyes of Kelly.
Yep…on RNZ this evening…curious thing is there were around 2700 convictions last year for cannabis…and if history is any guide we can be confident that it disproportionately impacted Maori.
Racist as the middle class centrist baby boomers who voted for them and no on this.
They want to be the party of government and these are their influencers.
Oddly enough I could be described as a centrist baby boomer…go figure
Racism is one sure way to take a centrist to the right. Brash, Brexit, Trump etc. Funny how people when young adults are rebellious, idealistic and have solidarity with others (because of whom they might partner in life), then they enter middle age and then either get greed for middle class self and or nostalgic for the racism of their childhood including refer madness ..
I disagree…my experience is that it can also go the other way…as people age they can also become more liberal and reject thought processes they have held life long….it is always risky to make assumptions based on stereotypes
I base mine on the polls. Boomers voted for Brexit, for Trump and no for a drug they associate with younger people of a different skin.
It’s about identity and class self interest and remembering of childhood (monoculltural) nostalgia.
The passing of the boomers will end neo-liberalism. This is the hope of humanity.
funny thing about polls is that they are not granular…they are a hotbed of assumptions…it would be very useful if they were not but I suspect it isnt possible to have a more specific definition and keep compliance
The differences in voting between those of different age demographic is no asumption. It is a known known.
But the reasoning is not known…and that is the relevant information that is unknown
Checkpoint?
found it https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018770679/andrew-little-responds-to-referendum-results
Yes
I would like to hear from Andrew Coster what the police position is?
The law needs to be fully explained to me, were I to use a cannabis balm to treat pain I could be breaking the law.
I used cannabis to help me kick a 15 yr opioid habit…(and to stay clean..)..I think cannabis should be available as an aid for anyone kicking anything…I also used it to ease nicotine withdrawals..I think cannabis is a wonder-drug…(having been researching it for over 50 years..)
So…we can ask other people to kill us…but we can't smoke a joint..?.
apparently so…with conditions
Close…but no cigar…
Why is decriminalisation dependent on the legalisation referendum result? Even some of those who organised against legalisation support decriminalisation.
Not a medicinal joint to treat pain. Just opioids and you could overdose unintentionally.
The mandate as of today is not to decriminalise. Cannabis can be treated as a health issue to avoid prosecution. This would not be suitable for ongoing pain.
Hopefully someone with some commonsense will intervene when it comes to medicinal use soon and set up a cannabis pharmacy.
The mandate is to not legalise. Not to decrminalise is a political call made by the Labour government.
What does not to decriminalise actually mean?
Decriminalisation means people can smoke without threat of prosecution. And without police using evidence (witchsmelling dope nearby) of it, for search of your property without a warrant.
The legal matter is then amount of dope around, below amounts associated with supply.
So not to decriminalise means that Little is saying he will not do anything to prevent persecution of marijuana users. And most of those will be Maori, so its effect is racist. As for those using it for pain and nausea because its the affordable option, they are also at risk. More so because police may have held out for this referendum or for people to move onto expensive medicinal forms. Now they will come to confiscate and prosecute.
No winners.
It should have been decriminalisation in the first place. I knew the whole thing was sunk when they started talking about a "Cannabis Control Authority" and licenced pot bars. The proposal should have been:
1) you can grow a couple of plants at home
2) you can smoke pot in your own home, maybe even have a few bongs with your mates on a Saturday night.
Would have brought it into line with home brew beer and growing your own tobacco.
Are home brew and tobacco classified as illicit drugs?

only if you sell them and dont pay duty as I understand it
It was too big a step going to decriminalisation. There needed to be two questions in the cannabis referendum.
Medicinal use allowed.
Decriminalisation.
From 5 November codine will require a prescription from a doctor. So panadine is no longer available over the counter.
That reminds me look out the little tin box with 70s design on its rounded 70s lid and its "snick" when you close it and see if the seeds will germinate. I'm optimistic – there was surprising success with seeds from ancient Egypt as I recall. Guerrilla gardening, but isolated plants in secret places so's not to attract unwanted attention.

People can be very reluctant to enable others to ease their pain. If I don't feel it, it can't be too bad.
Nuclear fallout is still being dealt with. Something has been happening that sounds good. We may yet see bad results ameliorated.

First, what is La Niña?
La Niña is one of the three phases of the weather occurrence known as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
This includes the warm phase called El Niño, the cooler La Niña and a neutral phase.
It occurs when equatorial trade winds strengthen and blow the warm surface waters of the Pacific away from South America and towards Indonesia.
In their place, colder waters from deep in the ocean come up to the surface.
La Niña can happen every three to five years….
Niwa says marine heatwaves have occurred during previous La Niña events, and warm seas contribute to warm temperatures on land – and contribute to summer storms and ex-tropical cyclones.
The Cannabis vote, and weasel words will be the end of the Labour – Green Government in 2023…the left voters will remember this…just watch in 2023
Not quite sure what the marijuana vote has to do with Labour.
My sympathies to France

France with great sonorous values stated in speeches. Too set in theories of wonder and greatness of their belle epoque to actually now do something practical to cope with the troublesome matters arising from when they were lords and masters over other countries with different cultures.
It is time for them to break through their own intransigence and self-aggrandisement. They are as bad as Britain, or as is commonly known the United Kingdom.
The majority of voters who support Cannabis Law Reform are Labour/Green Voters — if Labour chooses to ignore them…and by default support National/Act Voters (who tend to be No voters)…they, Labour, will be voted out…watch 2023 elections for evidence of this..
