The Post Primary Teachers’ Association have just launched a YouTube video protesting National’s hugely unpopular cuts to night classes.
The video highlights the shortsightedness of the 80% cuts based on cost/benefit, pointing out that in the process of educating 220,000 learners a year New Zealand gets back over 30 times its investment in Adult Community Education in economic and social gains.
I wonder what the rate of return on that extra $35 million for private schools was worth…

The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
An online petition calling for Tolly to attend night classes in economics may be in order by the look of things.
0.5% return or less would be my guess. It seems to be the National (Party) Standard for giving them and their owners taxpayer money.
